Hard time choosing exhaust
Does anyone of a cat back or axle back that sounds similar to this?
This is the autobahn exotics on a 335i. They dont make one to fit the 135 and said that fabbing one for the 135 would be very expensive and take some time. But of everything I've heard on the internet this is the one I like the best. basically I want something that sounds verry mellow down low like this but screams up in the higher rpm. It seems almost everything for the 135 is much louder and deeper. Im almost just tempeted to buy the 335 catback and have it cut and welded to fit but then that may comprimise the tone. Anyone know of any other brands to check becides the common ones. |

That is a pretty unique sound for an N54. Almost seems to have a horn baffle. It does seem pretty quiet at idle but I get the impression that for normal driving it will be just as loud as basically no muffler. The closest 135 axleback IMO would be the AFE with it's straight pipe and sound muffling chamber. The funny thing with this AE is that it doesn't seem to "gurgle" cleanly, that and the tough fit would move me to the AFE, etc.

That's extremely quiet considering the car is catless as well...like Eyeman said, that's a very subdued tone from the N54 at sub 5k revs. Most of the options out there (berk race, AA, GThaus, maddad, eisen, etc) are going to be significantly lowder at idle and down low. I think Remus makes a system that's fairly quiet? Or maybe Berk street, though that would also likely be louder than the above example. The cost/logistics of making a 335 exhaust fit an e82/88 would be pretty tough to stomach imo.

Might be hard to duplicate as this was a N54 with catless dps but had rear cats. With your N55 and no cats in the mids the same axleback could sound entirely different. I have had several members tell me that the Dinan is fairly quiet and mellow down low, but gives good tone in the high rpm and dosen't have any rasp that some get with the BMW PE. Have not heard one in person and not alot of vids of Dinan.

Thanks guys I will deff check into the brands that you all mentioned.
Eyeman; you are deff right it is a very unique sounding n54 Ive hever heard anything quite like it and actuall really liked it alot. Like it still sounds pissed off but not so roaring. And I relly like to be different sense most people always go with the same old brands. I also looked into exotic speed but once again only a 335 catback. 135ipats: Youa re right I'm sure it would be expensive. Just this catback alone is 1700. I know the dixis exhaust (which I also like) is just over 2000 so that would probobly be my limit. But exhaust tone is one of my fav things about a car so to have something very unique I'd be willing to spend. Ive also heard that because the 335 is true duals that also makes it quieter whereas we feed into 1 muffler which makes it louder. True/false???? 1fast1; ya I was figuring it wouldnt sound exactly the same sense this is an n54 but maybe pretty close. Im sure the dinan is pricey as well but If it sounds similar to something like this it would be worth it. |

IMHO the cp-e full cat-back exhaust with the "stealth pipe" upgrade and resonator upgrade sounds perfect, even with catless downpipes. cp-e will even coat the exhaust tips black for that OEM look. best exhaust for the 135i, the way i see it
