I expect it to end soon. I don't think they will make MY 2014 for the E82 so they might shut it around march or extend production, dunno, but if you want a new one I wouldn't wait.

I don't know why they wouldn't make a 2014 E82 in the US - what would it be replaced with? We aren't due for concept 2 series until a little less than a year from now, so I think 2014 is a good bet.

Also, remember BMW's penchant for 7 year model runs, so E82 here would be 2008-2014-15.

How often have we seen one-year gaps in a regular model's production run? Doesn't seem common, but I suppose the 1 is a niche vehicle in the US anyway. Still, if they have enough demand globally and factory capacity to keep making them in Leipzig then it would seem a bit odd to have a gap year with no 1/2-series coupes. It's not like they'd have to invest in new tooling or develop a new production line to support it.

I think Leipzig will continue to build the e82 and e88 until the F22 is ready to come out. We still have away before the F22 is ready. I think we are talking at least one more year, maybe more.

Besides which... after Leipzig finishes producing the e82/e88 next year... they have said that BMW China will be building the car for the Chinese market.

Ya 1 yr gaps aren't very common for BMW. Only one I can think of off the top of my head for North America was the year gap in the 5 series in 96. 95 was the last yr of the e34 nothing for 96 and 97 was the first year of the e39

I wasn't saying there would be a gap. Estimating when the 2 will come out and coincide with when the E82 production will end, which should be 7 years, I think we will definitely have a 2014 E82. It would also make sense if we had a 2015 which wouldn't leave any gap.
