So, I'm looking at a set of 18x8.5(et35) and 18x9.5(et40) wheels. I'm not 100% sure which tires I should be looking at for each fitment. 235/40-18 for the front? or the back?

It's a stock suspension 128i for reference. I probably will not be lowering it due to the fact our roads are abysmal around here.

The offsets you are looking at are quite aggressive - Its like putting 12mm spacers on a 135i all round. You will need to use 215/40/18 front and 245/35/18 rear tires. It will look stretched and likely to rub on the rear fender. The front rims will poke with the 8.5 inch ET35 and look a bit weird IMO. Personally I'd get rims with higher offsets, such as 18x8" ET40~ET45 for the front and whatever suits your taste for the rear. For conservative fitment most 135i aftermarket wheels have ET45 front and ET50 rear offsets.

Thanks for the info John. From what I've seen in my research those offsets looked like they would work but I should do some more reading to confirm this.


edit: the place I'm getting the wheels from recommended the following: "225/40/18 Front and 255/35/18 Rear"

Why would you run 225 mm tires on an 8.5" wheel instead of just getting narrower wheels?

Here is a photo of a 1-series with 235/40/18 NT05 on a 18x8.5" ET38 ARC-8.



We suggest that you pull the alignment pins to maximize negative camber for better fender clearance if you plan to run this tire size, since your wheel is 3mm more aggressive than the wheels shown. With the 225/40/18, you would have a slight stretch and that would provide better fender clearance if you lower the car. Added negative camber would be beneficial even though not required, as the 18x8.5" ET35 is on the aggressive side for a 1-series and past where the fender is.
