I drive a BMW because I like the car's feel and drivability. The X is my wife's car (AWD SUV for the kid). I currently drive an A4, prior to that, a Integra, prior to that, a Toyota Pickup and a 325ci. Of all the cars that we own, we have owned a 2003 E500, 2003 X5, 2000 A4Q2.8, 2002 325ci, a 2000 Integra, and a 1998 toyota pickup, and a 1995 Accord.

When we owned the E500 (total MB garbage quality), I regularly drove my pickup truck (best and most reliable machine I've ever owned). In terms of self image, I didn't care if someone saw me in the E500 or the pickup.

So you can be humble and drive a nice car. It's your attitude about yourself and others.

I Think that the civic is a great car.....Honda, in general makes good cars. My last/first car was an Accord......had no problems till 120,000 miles and its going. After some financial planning, I decided to indulge myself on the next car.....hence the E90. After driving my bimmer for a month, I just dont think I will be able to go back to a Honda now!

Basic point: as far as value for money is concerned, a BMW can never beat a Honda!!

My parents were actually debating buying me a Geo Getro.. metro.. for my first "practice" car because they said i would hit things. good thing they didnt. its a P.O.S.

After being on the forum for a few months, I've noticed that BMW owners are very egocentric about their car. They will not accept any other car as being better. Wake up and smell the roses! E90 is a great car.....and I have one, but it's not the best car in the world - and it will probably break down before the Honda(but that's another story!)

Like I said before.....if the E90 had a Ford/Dodge badge...

don't get me wrong, I like to attend lexus, GM test drive events and drive cars at dealers too, just to make sure I'm still buying the best

My parents said the EXACT same thing to me. When asking what car I wanted, I told my parents i wanted the 3 series and they both said I wanted it mainly because it was a BMW. I mean, i like the way the car looks, but it's also a plus that it's a BMW. If it was a toyota 325i, i would not have wanted it. ;] yeah we're all superficial.

I think anyone who's comparing a civic to a bmw has the "little man" syndrome. they are totally different cars for totally different purposes, it's like comparing an SUV to a porsche. not everybody is made of money, and the civic earned car of the year because it does what it does best in the class that it's in. holler back young'n woot woot

When my kid starts driving, I think I'm going to go the used car route or hand me down car for him...

Not to flame all of the sub 20 posters on this board, but I got into my share of fender scrapes, wheel scuffs, dented/& worse doors when I was first learning how to drive. Why go through this experience on a brand new car?!?

I beat the crap out of my used Saab 900 turbo before I truly learned how to drive correctly. Getting a driver's license is easy. Timing a pass, parallel parking, etc requires some experience.

My first BMW my Dad bought for me when I was 17 a 1987 325 with 73K miles on the clock, it was 8 years old at the time. I kept that car for 8-9 more years and finally sold it with over 180K on the ODO

If I would have gotten the Civic, I think I still would have ordered the Navigation. A lot of my friends, including myself, order the NAV because we would all seroiusly get lost. It's nice to have the NAV because it can reroute you, or you can choose other ways to go if you dont want the freeway etc.

That's totally true and I agree with you. All my friends who first started driving all drove one of their parents' extra cars that were older and advised me to do the same so if we were to hit anything, we wouldn't be too depressed over it. Since I got my license, I've been driving my parents' Nissan Maxima (98 I think) and I've scraped the bottom of it once when I was parking and there was one of those cement blocks. ;[ My car wont be here until probably early January so it's okay. Plus, if my parents are willing to get me a BMW, I'm not going to beg them to please notttt get me one.

i don't think there is anything wrong by use a new car as start, I use my friend's 996(i think) C4S to learn how to drive manual shift. Cars will get old, anyway. when it gets old, you won't care as much as new anymore, then you will switch to the new one again. so let's make the economic circulation runs better, get the new car, make it old, destroy it, then get the new one again.

True. But not everyone who is a new driver will wreck a car. I think it really depends on the personality of the person, like how careful or careless they are when it comes to other things in general. Also, "deserving" a car is relative. What some parents may think is deserving of a new car, may not be deserving to others. It really just, depends.
