With iDrive I only have one holder and you're buggered if your drink is taller than a 375mL can.
Unfortunately not. I'm hoping to find out from one of the members in the United States thinks their cupholder could be modified to fit a RHD car. Alternatively, I'm looking at ways to integrate one into each of the front doors.

This is the one thing that pisses me off about the 1er. I've been told that "The 1 Series is a driver's car, you don't need cup holders." Hell, the M3 has 4 bloody cup holders, and if that's not a driver's car, I don't know what is!

I'm working on a solution and will share my ideas once I've cracked it!

Yet another advantage of not speccing iDrive / satvnav ... the little storage compartment on the dash is perfect of storing sunglasses!

Great job on the custom install Corey!

Back on track, good install cozza, i will see if they can factory fit this to mine. Bloody smokers, who needs em:wink:
I probably would've got the gloss black if it was an option. Don't like all that shiny silver. Went the grey poplar instead. How did you get the black?

Nice one Corey. Might have to have a go at this myself. I replaced the ashtray on my e30 with a storage bin. Much simpler! Just pulled out the ashtray & pushed in the new factory insert. Even keep the cig lighter. Bloody smokers don't use their ashtrays anyway. They just flick it out the window! Then they can't understand why I pull up next to them at the lights on my bike & abuse them. Nearly as bad as the guys who put on their winscreen washers while driving in front of you, after you've just cleaned your car. Self centred pri!cks.

I would like something similar. However, I want to keep the Plug, just not the funny awkward ashtray. Maybe even one that can be customize at will for change or just flat objects. Also, anyone know of a Canadian dealer. Or US, don't mind ordering over the internet.

Dealer wanted $320 to fit. Car audio place did it for $120. Days later the dash bubbled up badly from the heat generated drying it out. Vinyl repairer fixed it pretty good.

This looks a lot safer to fit myself!
Any pictures of the work?

is it possible to keep the door and still make this change? Are the parts 4 and 5 all I need?

Unfortunately you can't retain the door with this option. I tried. The only part you need is part number 51167136190. It comes with the rubber insert (labelled as "5").

Talk about a revive! This thread's going on 7 years old! I just unplugged the 12v socket and left it there. There was no use for it and nowhere to move it to.
