My ~3 Month Of HPFP model# 933 just failed
interesting day for me. driving home from running some errands, car goes into limp mode, shudders when i apply the gas pedal, and SES light comes on. scan the car with the BT tool, the usual hpfp codes are present.
the pump on the car is a #933 remanufactured, installed less than 3 months ago. brief history on the car: the hpfp replaced 3 months ago was the third hpfp replacement in 45k miles or so. new pump will be getting installed tomorrow, making it the 4th replacement hpfp my car's had. i'm not really bitter or mad, i love the car enough to put up with these issues. what's bugging me, however, is post-abc news stories on the hpfp failures, bmw's response is to install #933 pumps and update software. my car's had both now, and the hpfp still failed. oh well. i'll have a 328i loaner to beat up on for a few days. and before anyone recommends that i should have posted this in teh general questions thread, i don't have any questions |

Interesting that the remanufactured 933 died. I'm a bit over 18,000 miles on my model 943 pump and no problems yet; the original HPFP died at 5565 miles.

thanks.
and no, tune was installed initially right before the last hpfp replacement. kept the tune on map 0 (jb3 then, procede now). since the #933 was installed a few months ago, i haven't had any issues except the very occasional shudder on a cold start. oh well. this just goes to show you that the hpfp issues are FAR from over, despite the massive recall and news coverage. a better pump than the #933 is needed. |

I thought there was a new HPFP that came out a month or two ago? I don't think that the #993 is the latest pump. Don't you guys also read the e90 forum? I could be wrong though.

hopefully bmw sees this recall as step 1 in a multi-step approach. i really think something else is at play here besides the hpfp's. the ethenol theory doesn't hold water because EU and other countries don't use ethenol and they still have hpfp issues. i'm a lil scared that bmw knows what the fix is and it's too expensive for them to implement. i don't know what other car's interest me that are around $30-40k right now. i'm fine with the occasional hpfp failure, my dealer's cool and i always have a loaner. i just hope my next hpfp lasts longer than 3 months |

Man u are lucky! My dealer is a bunch of tools. Dude I called them one time to get a part that u need sometimes to replace when installing a very common modification for our car and they asked why I needed the part. Then they wanted to know the vin number after and of course I avoided that. He said "isn't the car under warranty". There was absolutely no good reason for them to ask for vin #. It is not cool to have to take mods off to get a fuel pump replaced with another defective fuel pump

Sorry to hear about your pump but you've taken it well. My experience in getting it replaced was trouble free as well but I experienced the hpfp failure symptoms for months leading up to it which meant reduced performance.
Anyways, people are getting carried away with the part numbers. The 933 is the latest pump. The HPFP part number is longer than 3 digit number so just because the last 3 digits are higher doesn't mean it's the latest pump |

I found these posts that contradict your info. "I just got off the phone with my dealers master tech. He just told me that the new 402 HPFP isn't yet going into all cars because they don't have enough of them to do that at this point. For now they are being special ordered and put into cars that are having problems. According to him, none of the new 402 pumps they have put in have failed" "i edited my original post. pump #933 is remanufactured, and replaced the #943 earlier this year. the newest pump came out at the end of july, #402. there have been a few people that have received this new pump. check the "maintenance and warranty" section to read their posts. i have a #933, which clearly states on the paperwork that it's a remanufactured pump. i'm pretty sure i'll need a new pump in another 20k miles or so, that seems to be the trend on my car. no word if the #402 is expected to do any better than the previous models. my suspicion is they will fail in time, too, just like every other model of pump. oddly enough, my 933 pump was installed in august, and is being replaced today.
i had random longish cranks, (about 2 seconds)... no codes or limp modes. i scheduled an apointment a few weeks ago for this morning, and they just called to let me know they are giving me another pump.

I'm having mine replaced tomorrow morning and will have my car back tomorrow afternoon. The dealer called me today to confirm they are in fact replacing mine. I'll let y'all know the part number.

I just received my second HPFP a week ago. The repair lists the part number ending in 933 so I guess at least that's what my dealer did with my car.

You may be surprised by the number of consumers that DON'T research their vehicle that extensively before purchasing. I doubt this issue has affected sales much, if at all.

BMW is losing some sales. My friend who knows of my hpfp problems is skipping the Z435is and going for a Porsche Boxster. But I agree that probably not many compared to the amount they should be losing.
