TopSpeed Motorsports - Cobb Tuning Accessport Dyno Results
After years of working with Cobb Tuning we wanted to be the first shop to first hand test the new BMW Accessport! We started using Cobb when they were strictly Subaru, and have stuck with them through the years. We now use there software to tune Subaru, Mitsubishi, Nissan GT-R, and Mazdas!
You couldn't ask for a better group of guys, or better technical support than you get from the guys at Cobb Tuning! If you are unfamiliar with them rest assured they are one of the leading companies in the performance industry! As many of you may know we have been tuning the turboed BMWs for almost a year now using our own software. However we are very excited to jump on board with Cobb and can not wait until they release their AccessTuner software to the US ProTuners! At that point we will be able to create a custom map for each specific car to optimize its performance! Cobb always leaves a little bit of power on the table for us ProTuners As usual we were pleasantly impressed with the BMW AP! The install on the car went very easy and quickly! The handheld interface is easy to use and learn. It gives you the ability to log, check and reset codes and much more. The tune itself is just what you would expect from Cobb and a STG1 tune. Power delivery is like stock only more of it Throttle response, tip in, fuel trims and boost levels are all solid and very safe! One of the other great things about this devise is that you can simply uninstall it from your car, the AP loads the original map back on your DME and vanishes Like it was never there. *wink Please feel free to email or PM us with any questions you may have! These are IN STOCK and ready to ship. MSRP: $895 Here is the baseline and Cobb STG1 flash overlaid in a graph. This was done within minutes of eachother! The car never even came off the dyno between maps. Last edited by CICIO; 01-07-2011 at 03:44 PM.. |

I will have to find that out for you! I will PM you as soon as I know.
Honestly there is going to be no comparison. Tuning on all cars usually starts out as a piggyback system and as the technology develops the custom flashs come into play. Being in the industry for 11 years we have seen this time and time again. There is just way more control utilizing what was meant to control the car to tune it. When the ProTuner software comes out I would have to say you will see a drastic decline in how many people are using the piggyback units. Especially with the ability to flash the car back to stock at anytime. Thanks for the question. |

Isn't it? I don't think that applies as much as it used to. Maybe I'm wrong. --- From personal experience, I had a Peter Farrell PiggyBack unit on my 1993 FD Mazda RX7 for 2-3 years. After that, I purchased a PowerFC full standalone ECU, and the improvements were night and day 10000000x better. But, that was an old ass factory ECU from 1991/1992... Sooo.... |

Unless we are seeing significantly better gains I don't see the point. jb3/4 is a much lower price, procede around the same and you don't have to worry about voiding your warranty. I have seen a few people have problems with COBB before and dealerships and that is enough to make me worry. |

As Cobb technology develops you will see abilities for gains far exceeding this initial map release. Thanks for your input guys. ~Cicio |

Cicio,
Glad to see you guys so quick to test the Access Port. Can't wait to see what Doug can do once he gets ahold of the Pro-Tune software As always can't help but sing praises about TopSpeed I have been running a custom tune from TopSpeed for a few months now, power and delivery is always perfect Keep up the progress guys! I don't understand why the stock 135i only have 281hp?
My 135i (Spain) had more than 300 hp stock (315hp in dyno). And now, 377hp (383ch europe) with the JB3 map3 + intercooler Spearco... But I like the philosophy of the AccessPort...so I'm thinking to change for it... EDIT: I just understood that your Dyno is in "wheel power" and mine "motor power". Sorry!
