Only cars equipped with the power tailgate/trunk option or have strong OEM trunk lid gas pistons will open your trunk lid all the way. My X6 had a power tailgate and I could control the lid opening height from the iDrive, it was cool. You could replace your trunk lid gas pistons to a stronger aftermarket version perhaps or just use your hand to open the trunk lid the rest of the way. The new Bimmers have the kick function to open the trunk all the way now.

I don't know which Bimmers use stronger trunk lid pistons and it's certainly not an option in any car make or model that I've ever seen. It's too insignificant if a part to have options. However, a power tailgate can be an option on some vehicles. I've heard of people changing their trunk lid pistons themselves.

Well wait. There was some shim/washer mod that I saw a couple years back where you can adjust the pistons so that when you hit the button they open the trunk.

Might be worth looking for that thread. I think it's on these forums somewhere.
