10,500 mile trans-American June road trip - pictures

From June 1 through June 30 I traveled the US to discover its amazing roads and scenic beauty. Here are a few pictures I took along the way, high resolution (10mp) versions available upon request (pm me w/ your email). My car is but spattered, grimy, brake dust encrusted in many, but it was the road trip of a lifetime and I'm thrilled at the experience.

So awesome! A cross-country road trip is definitely on my list of things to do. I have some trans-Atlantic and down-under destinations to check off my list first.

Great photos. You weren't by chance in Springfield today were you? I spotted my first ever 1er not at a dealership, parked on a side road, and it was a white 135i.

Doing that is on my "things to do before I die" list. Did you travel alone?

Great pics would love to see more! We should all be so lucky one day to get a month off to drive cross country. Few of us will ever be able to say that we spent a month exploring our own country.

I thought about doing that but it was hard enough coordinating with my friends and family along the way, much less netizens I've never met in places I've never been.

Yup, thats me. I'm at Reliable BMW having a service and airbag replaced (faulty?) since I put a full service interval on the car between May and June.

I used car washes. I'm not afraid to use the brush when it gets nasty, I just spray it off before I wield it on my car. Bug and tar remover goes a really long way after a day of driving and rapidly collecting bugs in the sun.

I started out in central Missouri and headed to Mammoth Caves National Park. Then I bounced over to Washington DC and spent 5 days seeing the sites. After that I bee-lined for Yellowstone National Park, stopping at Badlands National Park, Wall Drug, Mount Rushmore, and Crazy Horse Monument along the way. I crossed Wyoming and entered Yellowstone through the East entrance and spent a day then headed south to Grand Teton National Park. Then I headed west across the Snake River Plain then took HWY 93 up into Montana and Glacier National Park and also stopped to see the Hungry Horse Dam (WOW!). After that I headed over to Olympia, WA to visit friends and did a day trip up along the coast to Olympic National Park. Then I headed south to Crater Lake National Park, down into Redwoods National Parks and took HWY101 through all the redwood forests to HWY 1, the Pacific Coast Highway which I followed until about 100 miles out of San Diego. where I split off to Joshua Tree National Park. I spent a night in Joshua Tree then drove through the Mojave Desert National Preserve and into Giant Sequoias National Park. I spent a day in Giant Sequoias then headed to Yosemite and then over to Mono Lake National Monument. I spent two days in Las Vegas, enjoying the nightlife and taking a break from camping and then headed to three days of camping at the Grand Canyon, visiting Zion National Park along the way. After the Grand Canyon I headed over through northern Arizona to Monument Valley and spent a day at Arches National Park. I finished up the trip visiting Mesa Verde in Colorado and now I'm in central Kansas.

I tried to plug all that into Google Maps but it refuses to calculate that many waypoints. There are a at least a half dozen other sites I visited along the way that thats the quick version.

Cool. Shame I wasn't in my one and not in a hurry or I would have stopped and said hey. You're probably one of very few 1ers in that area of Missouri.

I actually saw a SGM 135i with Missouri plates on Glenstone yesterday. There is a black 135i and a SGM 128i vert at Fort Leonard Wood. I used to be at FLW but I'm in Kansas now.
