The Pro Solo is this weekend (Mineral Wells) if you really want to get some seat time.

Clearly, I am biased towards events with LSC BMW CCA - we have an advanced autocross school and autocross coming up May 19th/20th..

Very funny, and, for the most part, very true. The Pro series is usually a lot more time on the courses, as you run one side and then swap to the other side, etc. Maybe 12 runs or so? Anyway, different from the standard tour or divisional format that usually have three runs and lots of dead time.

so with several of us going to MSR next weekend do we want to try to park together? also if you are staying, you might want to book the hotel now. BWestern said they are getting close to full. Track rate = 69.99

I'm closing on my old house Friday afternoon then I'll probably drive out to MSR that evening. Will be towing the chump car though. We dropped a 'new' motor in last weekend so will be breaking it in over the weekend. GF will be driving the 1M out Saturday so I can run session or two in it. Rear tires are completely done so it should be a fun lession in oversteer

I've got some 285s coming in next week fortunately!

What kind of tires did you get Robert? I am in need of new rear tires too but after this event I am just going to run my track wheel/tire combo a while so I dont have to shell out the bucks before vacation time.

I've got a BUNCH of expenses coming up over the next couple months so I was trying to get something inexpensive. Found a set of 285 PS2s that are mostly new for very cheap. I figured this will save money and if the 285s are too wide or create too much understeer I'm not out big money. The front tires on my car are still in great shape.

I have been dodging the new tire issue as well. My brain says I need three sets of wheels.
Autocross 18s with RS-3
Track 18s with Hoosier or Conti
Street 19 stockers

My wallet can't afford what the brain wants... so going to kill some Contis this weekend or use some Hoosier Takeoffs.

Next month I am going to Colorado. High Plains Raceway, and I don't autocross again til June, which will force my hand on purchasing tires. I will probably get RS-3s 265 front and 285 rear for my Apex wheels and see how they double as track/autocross tires.

Four runs Saturday morning. four runs Saturday afternoon, four runs Sunday morning. All those runs are for qualifying to the Gumout Super Challenge Round. The Challenge Round is a 32 car elmination round. When I ran the DC Pro two weeks ago, you had to either win your class or be less than .2 out of first. As it happened 22 places were filled by class winners. There is also a Ladies Challenge and a Bonus Challenge. If you make it through the Super Challenge, you have ten more pairs of runs. Oh and you win the event.

Forgestars are pretty damn affordable, even at 19" sizing.

I'll check out the Forgestars...but more than likely will get another set of Arc-8s .

Our regular autocrosses at Mineral wells feature 10 runs... 1 day.

Just wanted to say it was GREAT meeting some of the DFW 1M owners. We did have six cars at the event... many were marveling that so many 1Ms were present and on track. (2 black, three white, and one Valencia). There were also a few other 1ers as well.... I believe a red and a gray 128.. perhaps an additional 135.

I was able to sit in with Kelly on a check ride and I got to chat with each owner. I ran my Conti's and they felt absolutely awesome. I actually ran with MDM on and had no issues with passing many of the cars in the instructor group. One can be pretty fast with MDM on if you are smooth.

nice to meet you too mark. i did take your advice on the horse shoe, boot hill, tombstone corner on my next session and was really able to lay down the power full throttle even before fully exiting the corner. made a hell of a difference. my best lap was a 2:33 on street tires that have been heat cycled out now. I avg though was 2:36 which i hit consistently from the 2nd session to the end of the event when i had clear running.

i really wanted to catch a ride with you after i saw the conti's on your car at the grid but i never was able to find or catch you. LOL...i could have tried harder tho.

good event with lots of seat time...time for some R-Comps and adj camber plates now. I think I have worked my skill level up to it. I'll try to get some video up this weekend of one of my best sessions.

what was up with the flamingo's on the second day btw???

I drove up to Plano this evening and will be over at Vorshlag when they open. New adjustable camber plates and coil overs. So I may try to get over to the May 19/20 autox. Mark, what is the format of the school? Would it be a good test and tune opportunity?

The advanced a/x school will be a ton of seat time, so yes great test and tune I think. I probably won't be there, will be at high plains raceway in Colorado.

What's this about camber plates? Are the 1m ones ready for stock suspension? Please ask Terry! I have been pushing terry to get them done!!!

I will ask Terry about the plates for the stock suspension. I'll be over at Vorshlag this morning, then at COBB Plano this afternoon before heading back to Leander.

I asked the question last night about the OEM springs and got this response this morning. Looks like there is a plan but no set date yet. I think I can wait out my urge until the Vorslag's are available...no use settling for anything less than the best!!!
Kelly, your interpretation is correct. The 1M uses a very unique top mount with an extremely low stack height. It's geometrically impossible for us to build a camber plate for it using our current components without raising the car an unacceptable amount. We do offer camber plates for the 1M if your car has an aftermarket suspension with adjustable ride height and uses 60mm, 2.25" or 2.5" springs.

We've recently hired a full time draftsman and a solution for the 1M with OEM springs is on our list of projects to tackle. I've been watching the thread on the 1-series forum regarding the difficulties the 1M owners have had trying to find a camber plate for OEM springs that stands up to track use and we've recently spoken about possible solutions. But we don't want to offer a half-baked solution that would not work as well as the plates you remember from your MINI.

Thanks,
Jason McDaniel - Tech, Vorshlag Motorsports

I did talk to Terry a few minutes ago and this is essentially what he told me. There is currently one company making these plates for the 1M and they have experienced a high failure rate. Vorshlag will not rush these to the market until and unless the design and engineering solutions can ensure a good result. But it does sound like these are on their radar.
