Roof Rattle

Anyone have a rattle in the roof above the rear seat - maybe in my sunroof?? Is this common?

Yes I have that. I have been trying to pinpoint it for months since my warranty is about to expire. Its annoying, sometimes i have it sometimes I dont. I think it is more accute when the sunroof is tilted.

If I punch the ceiling behind the sunroof i get a very bad rattling sound. I think i remember reading that it is common problem with broken sunroof cassette tabs.

Let me know what happens with yoursl

I have so many annoying little problems like that with my 1, im not looking forward to trying to explain to the dealer how sometimes i get a clunking here and a rattle there.

had that in my e92... more prominent when the sunroof cover was retracted.. or maybe the other way around.

Rattle warranty is only 12months from new purchase anyway.

I keep bugging them until they fix the rattle. However, all of my warranties expire early next year, so I have to get everything fixed by then.

other thing i forgot to mention with the rattle was that it was most common when it's cold. that is if i leave the car outside in winter i get it but it seems to go away in summer!

Had that and just got it fixed at the dealer. They rode in the back and made it make my noise mostly by poking just behind and to the driver's side of the rear reading lights. Dealer fix description:
"Sunroof rail on drivers side rattling against frame. Test drove vehicle and heard rattling noise going over bumps and on rough roads. Determined noise coming from drivers side sunroof rail. Metal bracket on drivers side was rubbing against aluminum frame for sunroof. Partially removed headliner and installed felt tape."
