I have my flame suit on...
I think it is reasonable to put an ////M badge on your 1er only if it is a 135i with a large amount of mods... a 128 simply doesn't have the power to back up the badge unless you go FI (which you might as well buy a 135i before wasting your money if considering that) Peoples logic on not putting a badge on a car that celebrates the racing heritage of BMW racing is stupid to me. ///M parts are still shit compared to aftermarket, so paying for an overpriced ///M car instead of modding a "regular" BMW just seems stupid to me. I almost want to put an ///M badge on my car now, simply to piss people off... last e46 that I raced after him bitching about quad exhaust being poser learned real quick his "Superior ///M car" was a joke in comparison to a BPU 135i. I'm done ranting... For now |

Why the fixation about an M badge? There's no logic at all to people putting their own badges on cars. The manufacturer does it for marketing purposes, it has no performance or safety attributes. The M badge means that the car is representative of BMW's tuning division. BMW has deliberately decided and stated that there will be no 1-series "M" car.
Putting your own M badge on says several things. 1) You obviously embrace the marketing and want to be part of BMW's M brand. 2) You want everyone else to know that. 3) You don't think there's any difference between when BMW makes an M car and you make an M car, hence the appropriateness of your badge. Unfortunately, point 3 is where it all falls down, because no matter how hard you may convince yourself that you are the proud owner of an M car, other people who know the brand will not accept your self promotion and will consider you a poser.

It's your car, you paid the money for it, so don't let anyone tell you different if, in your heart of hearts, you really want to do something.
If you really want my opinion, though, adding something that tries to make your car look like something it's not is kind of weak. If you want the ///M look, do something serious like putting the aero styling kit on or something. |

I have a 135 with the M package and there is NO M badge on the trunk. Don' put a badge where is doesn't belong.
Bottom line (just my opinion) An //M badge belongs on the trunk if an //M badge is on your engine. |

People put the M badge on all sorts of cars. Why? Either as a spoof or just plain ignorance. If you want to do it as a spoof, go ahead and prepare to wink and laugh when people look at you and smirk.
If you are trying to get a few laughs - you will. If you are trying to fool the ignorant - you will probably catch a few of them, but so what? It's a mean nothing, hollow victory in my opinion. If you are trying to pick up chicks? Most of them wouldn't know an ///M badge from a Mazda 3. So then ask yourself the question, why do you want to do this? |

As some always drone on...: it's your car, so do what you want with it...
BUT... If you value others' opinions (because we live in a society) listen to the majority on this thread: when it comes to badging... take it off, but don't put anything on. If BMW didn't put it there, it shouldn't be there. That's the code I live by... They make'em, we drive'em, but THEY make'em...

Ok I think this thread is pretty much done.
first I saw the M badge on a 135 here in Ottawa. second I asked if the US model of the M sports package added a badge on the trunk. I got my answer. I wont do it. |

I wrapped my chrome trim in shadowline vinyl... I am a poser for the sports package now (at least from the outside) if it makes you feel any better...

I cut off the m, tossed it, and painted the exposed side silver....just having the 3 motorsport stipes.. put it on the other side of the trunk....I liked it....very subltle.....absolutely no m-ing anywhere. |
