I love this.

Sorry, no helpful advice. Cats will be cats. If they're strays you can try calling the pound; if they belong to someone you can ask the owner to keep a lid on their property. I wouldn't expect either of those approaches to go very far, though.

But glad you decided not to kill the cats.

Hahaha, I had the same problem. I lived in Spang-Town right next to the dry-cleaners. There were cats galore. It probrably didn't help that I fed them all the old tuna the ex-wife left in the pantry (I hate tuna). They like the warm hood. After a while I just accepted it. there's really nothing you can do except maybe wax the living shit out of it and maybe they will slide off and grow tired of trying to climb up? For what it's worth, they never did any damage to my baby. Just some paw prints from time to time.

I had a friend that put a stuffed animal of a dog on his hood at night. It worked just OK until he went to a Dicks sporting goods store and got some deer or other hunting scent and sprayed it on the stuffed animal. Then with the scent coupled with the visual and no cats have been on his car since.

Cats should be regulated the same as dogs. If I or my neighbors let our dogs roam free, they would be picked-up by the local animal enforecement officer, yet there are at least three cats running free in my neighborhood.

Mark your territory (pee) around the car. They should stay away, as cats are territorial in nature.

Or kill them. Whichever.

There are several companies that make products designed exactly for this sort of problem. Here are a few that come to mind. Ruger, Winchester, Remington, Sako, Smith and Wesson.

There are also a few others that people tend to forget about. Prestone, Zerex, Shell etc.

I would not tolerate cats on my car !!

predator pee? sometimes I'm suprised by what is available in the US.

I had a neighbours cat that slept on the softtop of my mx-5. Every morning the car was covered in cat fur, dirty paw prints etc.

Out of frustration I silastiked about 10 Pryda brackets (for roof trusses) upside down to a sheet of shadecloth. The cloth was thin enough to secure at night even with the frameless doors.Few problems after that, (or the cat went of and died of external bleeding somewhere....)

You have to consider what happens when a shocked cat goes scrabbling off the hood/roof of your car, though. Footprints are preferable to clawmarks in the paint.

Wonder if you could find a way to hook up a motion detector to some kind of siren/noise. I've seen people do this inside their houses to deter cats from getting on the counters. Works great. And if neighbors complain, tell 'em to keep their effing cats indoors.

I've got a neighbor that feeds strays. They've been pissing all over my deck for the last year. I'm getting a livetrap this spring and they're taking a one-way trip to the pound.

Here in Germany we have a big problem with these little annimals - that like to eat away the insulation on the car's wires. These annimals are called Mauraders (Sp?).

Quite a few people told me to put those toilet bowl air fresheners around the car. I bought some of those blue tablets you drop into the American toilets, so far that has done the trick. That damm blue tablet does stink up the garage. lol But so far tydi-bowl seems to be working for me!

Lurker bringing this thread back from the dead...

Has anyone had any luck using an electronic deterrent device? I was looking at this thing:

http://www.amazon.com/Contech-CatSto.../dp/B0001A9TE2

There seems to be some mixed reviews of whether these things work or not.

I currently have the 1er under a car cover plus a 6mil poly sheet held on with magnets. So it's not scratches I'm worried about but the cat just tracks muddy prints all over the place making it a mess to handle the covers.

CAT PAWS!!!

This happens in the middle of the night while I'm asleep. I can camp out during the day with a garden hose, but can't stay vigilant 24 hours/day.
