too tall and stubby
So, let me start by saying my 135 is probably my most favorite car I have ever owned (maybe my 240sx with a sr20det, it was just pure fun to drive). i have however noticed its kinda fugly. I would like to give the car the car a bit of a sleeker look. I feel like the sport stripes would create an optical effect that would shorten the hight and elongate the look of the car. having not seen a 1 with the sport stripes in person can anyone give me some insight as to if this is a correct assumption or not.
I also plan on tinting the windows and giving the roof some black vinyl, and i get that the obvious solution is to put the car on some coilovers but i live in RI and if youve been here you know we have the worst roads in the country and half the year is snow covered, so coilovers are not really of intrest to me thanks for any insight |

I've seen the sport stripes in person, i personally think it looks a little rice, but that's just my opinion. Do some research on the H&R OE Sport springs. Those might be what your looking for.

oh btw, im a bmw purest, so by tint i mean the bmw mesh screens. And again i havent seen the sport stripes but I have had e30s and one did have old school green racing dynamics pinstripes i thought it just had that cool/cheesy/rally? look. i see the sport stripes as the same thing just on a new car.
You know, it sounds like i've made my decision |

I've never liked the stripes people put on their 1's....granted if you like the look of the stripes get them, but know that they won't create any sort of optical illusion.

Too tall and stubby?
Way back, I felt the same way about the 2002... Until my brother bought one and I rode in it. I've had an undying love for that car and BMWs ever since.

It works very well with silver.
You might want to also look into getting 30% tint / H&R lowering springs / new rims. Maybe even BMW Performance side skirts as well. That will sharpen up your dull blade

A drop will make the car look 100 times better, also some black grills depending on your color and trim. You will keep looking back to admire it ...trust me

Looks great from certain angles, from others, not so much. I'm not sure what to attribute it to, but I find the 1M much better looking (although outside the BMW world, many folks find it ugly too). But who am I to complain, I owned a 318ti and always wanted an E36/8 M Coupe, and they never won any beauty contests. |

Lower the car to make it less tall... Makes a big difference.

Well like i said, I know lowering is the obvious solution. However where I live, the roads are terrible, and with winter coming they will only be getting worse. So for now lowering is out of the question.
Either way, I;m putting the car on hold for a bit, I'd rather have a house. Thanks all for your input |

Fastest way to give the optical illusion that the car is longer and shorter is painting/wrapping the roof!
