Would you buy a demo 135i with 300 miles if it was your perfect spec?!
My original plan was to buy my 128 off lease but BMW will not budge on residual price and its way to high. So on to planB
Would you buy a demo 135i with 300 miles if it was your perfect spec?! The car has been sitting awhile and they are knocking off $6k. My concern is that its been freezing here all winter so the car has been basically abused its first 300 miles with a cold engine. I want to lease to possibly buy so its perfect being its a 2013. Or should I try and find a used 2010-2011 to buy, and still no know how its been treated. my friend said these engines are indestructible and are design to take way more abuse than 300 miles of grueling test drives. thoughts? |

Unless it was terribly abused i don't see how much damage could have been done with 300 miles. See if you can find out more about how it was treated if possible.
Knocking 6k off sounds like a steal but also makes you question why. See what you can find and get back to us.

Two questions
Would you have driven it any easier? some people don't care/believe in a gentle break in How many people do you know beat on the car with the salesman in it? How many of those miles do you think were abusive? It does come with a warranty.

Check out autotrader, there are quite a few great deals on the remaining 1ers - guessing the dealers want to get them off the lots to make room for the new 2 series. |

Something else to think about which may be minor. Because the car is a demo, there is a warranty extension which gets applied if you buy it. It's an additional 3 months but I forget if or how many extra miles. I seem to recall 5000 extra miles. But don't quote me on that.
I know about the warranty extension because my 135i was punched in as a demo just before I bought it with 22 miles on the odometer. So it was only classified as a demo for about a month. |

I purchased my car as a demo. I was told that the car was used exclusively by a BMW executive when traveling between dealerships in Florida. The story was probably bullshit as the car had 3k miles on the odometer. The car was never titled so I was considered the first owner. I don't believe the mileage or time limit on the warranty was adjusted, but we settled on a cash price which was $12,000 below invoice including TT&T and dealer fees. I have had no major issues with the car in the four years of ownership (knock on wood). If you like the car, give them a low ball offer... You may be surprised at what they will accept. I was.

Sure I would. The demo models likely get less abuse than many owned cars. You know it hasn't been tuned to ungodly amounts of power then removed with the owner claiming its stock, it hasn't been to the drags and most drives are given with a salesman in the car. It also has had all its work done at the dealer in a timely manner. 300 miles is nothing and engines nowadays really don't need 'breaking in' like they did years ago. I would give the car a good look over then if the price is right I would jump on it.

After 4 months of looking I bought an off lease 2010 135 with 31,000 miles offered as a CPO (though I didnt buy it as a CPO). It was the exact car I was looking for with the HPFP already addressed, full service records from the selling dealership, and stock like the day it left the showroom down to a brand new set of runflats (ewwww).
The selling dealership prepped the car so well (when I called ahead and told them I was going to drive 125 miles to come see it that weekend) other than 2 rock chips, minor wear on the shift knob, and by the steering wheel cruise knobs it was hard to tell it wasnt a new car. I bought it for 55% of the new MSRP. I would look for off lease cars from other dealerships |

I dont think there will be many deals. They really only have deals when they are trying to get stock off the lot, and there really isnt an overstock issue on the 1 series.

I bought a demo with just under 3,000kms on it for $20k off rrp. It's been fine, I would have run it in hard anyway.

However, the 1 series is a year old model. Despite how much we all like the 1, it is an old car that dealers want to clear out. I think you'll see some great deals.

If it's been sitting there for a few months they have to carry the car in their inventory costs. $6K isn't that good. The longer they hold it, the more it costs them. Even if they don't budge from the $6k, they might be wiling to throw in extended maintenance (high profit for them) or other stuff that has high dealer profit.
