NEW HPF BMW 135i/335i Stage 1 FERAMIC (750rwhp) Clutch - TEST DRIVE VIDEO
I've been driving on our Feramic clutches for around 10 years now in my Supra, Viper, M3 and now we've built the same clutch material into the 135i/335i and upped the pressure plate clamp load from 1800 lbs to 2500 lbs for our stage 1. This clutch is simply amazing. Not only does it handle up to 750rwhp/600ft-lbs but it drives like it did from the factory with a minimal 25% pedal effort increase. We installed our first one in Tim's 135i today. The engagement was a little too close to the floor. Our first production run will have a slightly thinner clutch disk so the clutch will engage at the same pedal height as the factory clutch. But you can get a really good idea about how the clutch drives with three different people taking the 135i out for the first time.
Here is the Go Pro Video.... Chris. Last edited by HPF Chris; 10-05-2011 at 07:24 PM.. |

That's pretty sweet! I know it was mentioned a long long time ago in these forums, but I forget, does anyone know what the stock manual and auto (and DCT now, I guess) trannies can handle in terms of power and forces put on them?
Now if we could only get someone to make a fuel system upgrade so our engines can actually put out 600 ft lbs...

I think its possible but not many companies are going to be willing to develop a new clutch for DCT, maybe when they start failing on a massive scale... But lets hope Im wrong!

This clutch is simply amazing... I have to admit I was nervous to drive at first since race clutches tend to really change the drivability of the car. No problems in traffic, slow starts, pulling in or out of driving etc. I like the firm feel of the clutch pedal, feels more delibrate and solid.
Great job HPF!

Tim's car is now completed. The HPF clutch now engages at the correct pedal height. There was an error in the machining process on the fulcrum of the pressure plate in the initial design which affected both of the prior installations. The driveability is now perfect along with the correct engagement height. I'll post up some videos shortly.

Final clutch installed and HPF nailed it! Great pedal feel and easy engagement. About 5%-10% increased clutch pedal which is hardly noticable. normal OE throw in the pedal. this will compliment the turbo upgrade nicely.

clutch look amazing! I have a quick question...the clutch chatter that you guys are talking about....is it normal to have that with a newish stock clutch??
THanks for the input! |

never had clutch chatter on new clutch. OE clutch with CDV will cause irratic behavior between 1st and 2nd but not clatter. there is only clatter on this clutch when creeping forward at extremely low speeds (pulling into parking spot) or starting from a stop up a hill. Otherwise the engagement is quick and delibrate.

Nice product and interesting video. Sounds like it will be a nice kit tha comes with eveything one needs to do a proper clutch job.
Is it just me or did anyone else notice the poor driving styles of these drivers. ? Driver #1... steers with the inside of the wheel. Does not shuffle. Driver #2... drives with his "paw" always at 12 O'Clock. IF he ever gets into an accident his hand gonna hit him square in teh face when his airbag goes off! lol Driver #3... hunches over the steering wheel and always leans too far forward over the wheel. |
