Yeah, I don't like that cut line at all... The hood should have continued all the way to the grille like on the e82/e87...

And the rear bumper looks large and fat in profile... Ugh.

But if you already have a 135i, there certainly is no need to rush out to the dealer to pick up this next iteration.
A lot of people can't deal with now having the "old" model.

In a 1 series board, of course you'll see a higher proportion of people who like the 1 series over the 2 series. The posters here are mostly people who actually liked the current 1 series enough to buy one so if BMW goes about changing stuff they like, there's a higher chance they'll not like it.

Compare that to people in the other forums who probably passed up on the 1 series mostly because of the look. The new 2 series streamlined the shape of the 1er just enough to appeal to that demographic now.

I actually really like the 2 series. Of course all of us are a bit biased here, but it really is a good looking car with great specs. I agree it has an odd booty and the trunk lid is weird. Cant wait to see it in person. Great color to debut it in also. Ive been reading and a lot of people are thinking that there wont be an M2 because price/performance wise it would step into m3/m4 territory....hmm. This car would be awesome as a full blown M with nice and wide fenders.

Its a slow evolution of the 135 not a radically new car. It could have just as easily been released as the 2014 135, except for a marketing department juggling of the id #’s to conform with the 5/6 series sedan/coup/convert numbering convention.

Some sour grapes in the comments by people who have the old car, happens every time a new model is released, nothing new here.

I was really nervous about this car blowing the E82 out of the water. Looks like I can rest easy. I think the only thing I like better about the exterior is the side door panels and side skirts. Everything else I find not as pleasing.

I'm honestly a bit annoyed that they are marketing this as the successor to the 2002. When I look at this vs the E82, the E82 seems like a more worthy successor in almost every way. I'll still test drive one once they are available but I can't see myself giving up my 135is anytime soon. I love the nose of our cars, and how they have so much character. The 2-series looks like it's been stung in the ass by one of those giant killer bees.

Go ahead and add me to the "biased 1-series owners list"

I agree with you on all accounts. And I can also tell you that when the 1-series came out they were pushing that real hard as the successor to the 2002. If you ever get a chance to see the commemorative book you got with the year one of the 1 cars, it's all about the heritage of the 2002 and how the 1's design was inspired by that, blah blah blah. So, odd that they'd try to do it again, whereas the 2 is merely the successor to the 1.

This video may help, as I remember watching this video almost 6 years ago:

Looks wise, I think the 2 series blows the e82 out of the water. Why couldn't they make it look this good for the e82? I think it would've then looked too similar to the e92 coupe.

If reports start coming out that the car drives better than the e82 and they fixed the terrible steering, I will seriously consider selling my 128i and swallowing my disgust of the n20 and look into getting a 228i m sport.

Just looking at the stats alone, while the wheelbase and width have grown, the weight is lower than the e82. Maybe they also fixed the suspension too (doubt it).

why do you even own a 1-series if you hate the looks and the way it drives? seriously i will never understand how people buy cars they don't like.

One of the things I don't find attractive about this iteration is precisely that front looks like 3/4 series fused with a Z4, and it lost that bulldog stance. But I guess, like said before, it now appeals to a broader market.

Didn't they say the 228 was going to be the FWD platform? Correct me if I am wrong, please.

The F2x series will be RWD, the new 1 series will be FWD based on the UKL platform

Won't happen. Now that there is an M235i, IMO, I think the chance of an M2 coming out is slim to possibly none.

1. It'll take market share away from the M235i
2. To be an improvement over the M235i (especially with all the M parts you can now add), it'll be too close to the M3/4

I just don't see how BMW can figure it would be financially viable for the rest of their market. The M2 might sell like crazy, but at the expense over their other models.

If an M2 ever does come out, it'll be like the 1M: a very limited production run for 1 year.

Again, that's my opinion. It's worth about a nickel.

Meh, looks like a watered down 1 designed by committee (which it probably was).

No question this is going to be right in some cases

In some other cases like mine, folks may have looked at the present (F30) and the speculated future (M235 intel at the time) and decided they'd better go get the "old" car before it was too late

Have done that myself when a line I was looking at discontinued the 6MT in the new model A lot of guys grabbed the 335is at the switch because it was the last of the N54 too. But that is a lot different than I hate the new model because......

that's basically exactly what i did. I actually had to rush my order in to get the last allocation before production stopped. I had researched all the spy shots heavily before-hand, and had driven an F30 (which was quite frankly: terrible!!)

Same here, though mine goes back to looking at the redesigned M135i expecting the 2 to be just a coupe version of that. The interior, gauges, etc. appear to be identical, but front and back are different.

The only good thing is I do like the new gauges/instrument panel. Wheels are ugly and the colors offered are horrible and really limited. Everything is silver/white/grey except for melbourne red and estoril blue. Yet, on the 228 you can get a whole vast array of interesting colors like deep sea blue (feel me IEDEI?), midnight blue, valencia orange, etc. etc.
