Climate Control Fan associated noise
Lately I’ve noticed that I have a humming/vibration coming from the passenger side of the dash. It seems to happen more on colder days and the loudness of it is directly related to the speed of the climate control fan.
I did a search to see if anyone has seen anything similar to this but came up with nothing. So I’m asking….has anyone seen anything similar to this? Anyone have a bad fan motor in their 1-er? Any info would help before I start ripping my dash apart to find it. I’m over warranty (55K) otherwise I would take it to the dealer. Thanks! |

Not sure if this will help, but I had something similar on a '99 E46 328i sedan.
Starting at about 55,000 miles or so, I would get some fan noise only when the weather was cold, before the car was totally warmed up, and only at certain speeds(!). Manually increasing or decreasing the fan speed would cause the vibration to go away. As it didn't seem to get worse or otherwise impair the CC performance, I left it alone and drove the car another 40,000 miles. Tom |

That's exactly what I'm seeing. I'm a bit of an OCD type so I can't ignore it.....maybe I'll start ripping things apart this weekend.....

i have noticed this in my 1er. It only happens when I turn the heat on right away from a cold start.....so I let the car warm up for two mins max before turning on the climate control and no weird noise.

Only had the 2011 for a week and I noticed right away how much noise the fan made. Doubt it is defective. Suspect it is what BMW would call normal.

I get an annoying whistling sound from my heater fan. But, only at low fan speeds. When I turn it to max. it goes away, but returns at low fan speeds. Hope it will go away or I'll be taking it in AGAIN, for yet another issue.
