Inspection. Should be cheap. Unless they find something.

Probably just an oil change and wiper blades and pollen filter(cabin). And a general looking over the car. You could also do this stuff yourself and use BMwhat app or the BavTech cable to clear this "car on a lift" icon. I am not sure IF the TorqueApp clears this icon. But with Torque you can read codes with a BlueTooth dongle.

Hold the service button and see if there is a code that pops up, look for it on here or Google.

Isn't there a way to clear the maintenance code without the app using the reset option in the instrument cluster?

Ohh yes! I completely forgot about that! And I wrote that thread! lol But for some of the lights... like brake pads... you might need to go to a dealer to reset them - IF you wait too long(driving around with them on).

DIY resetting service "due" lights…

the car on lift is only an inspection. the inspect fluid levels, tread depth, look for leaks, etc. I had it done at 56,000 miles. I think it was $175. i'm currently over due for it by 6,000 miles, but haven't gotten around to taking it in.

it wont include any fluid change, brake change or other parts changes (etc). all those counters are separate.

if they find something and you are out of warranty, they will just recommend that you get that fixe.d.

you could reset it yourself, (i reset mine when i do my own oil changes).

wow all of that for $170. I can do all that myself. Tire depth gauge, check the fluids, look under the car, etc..

yeah...i was in the shop for brakes and a few other things and agreed to tack that on.

after i saw the report i said exactly what you said "i can do that myself" which is why i'm 6,000 miles past due on it.

Will the BMwhat app work if your car does not have the BMW app option? How is this connected ? I guess I need a cable to plug into the OBII connection. Will this reset the inspection warning that comes on in dash. I might need this if I get the car inspected other than the dealership.. thanks.

you can reset the service indicators using the control on the side of the steering wheel.

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=415111

I recently bought an bluetooth OBD2 connector so i could check and clear codes with my phone.

From the above I think I have my answer but I want to see if anyone has had something similar as the dealer is saying something slightly different:

So I've got the same light on, and had my car in the shop for unrelated things (VANOS solenoids), and now they are claiming that they need to do what sounds like some sort of "annual fancy scan" before they can clear the light. They want $150, $120 for the scan and $30 for resetting all the lights...

Anyone have any experience with this? Is it as B.S. as it sounds?

I'm assuming I can just clear this with BMWhat or the steering control and nothing bad will happen, but they seem to really want to imply that the sky will fall...

EDIT: Got my original SA on the phone, it's been taken off.
