JIC Cross Coilovers or ???

I have the opportunity to buy a set of lightely used JIC Cross coilovers for my car for $500 and I'm not sure if I should or not. The car has rear springs and pretty agressive wheel/tire package. It already rides pretty rough(especially rear) and slightly rubs in large dips in road.

I did a track day and the car felt like it just wouldn't corner. Maybe just needs the front springs done? Better tires? I was thinking about doing the JIC's but I don't want to have a stiff bouncy, rough ride. Anyone used these before and have comments???

I'm figuring if the previous owner went back to stock in front, the ride quality must have sucked with front springs or rubbed too much....

I have the Cross setup and it is very firm, even with non-RFTs. One of the reasons I chose them is that they use a linear rate spring. That offers smooth road handling advantages, but there is a ride penalty.

What wheels/tires are you running? The Cross struts take up about 5mm of clearance on the inside up front, which could be a problem if you are running a wide tire/wheel with high offset. I'm running 225 Hankook V12s on stock wheels, and there is just about zero clearance inside. With 2 degrees of camber, there's at least an inch on the outside.

So, probably not the most enjoyable ride for commuting then? Would you but them again next time?

I'm running VMR 710's. 18" with a super agressive offset. They tend to rub where the fenders meet the bumpers during fast dips in the road. The front tire is a 235/40/18 Contisport.

Depends what I wanted to do with the car. For my current commute, no. I had intentions of tracking the car (and retiring!) when I installed them.

Assuming that is a 8.5" wheel up front, I'm guessing you will be very close on the inside, but OK outside with enough camber. 2 degrees is easy with the Cross camber plates.

I love my JIC suspension.

The ride is fantastic as long as the roads are good where you are at.

I paid $1000 used shipped and would have paid $1500. Great investment.

Thanks guys!! I don't want a rougher ride than I have now, so I think I'll probably pass on them. I appreciate the feedback!

think all coilovers have this problem. I am running KW v2 and there is absolutely no space btwn the rim and the strut, I need a 5mm spacer just to be able to run my v701, stock wheels have a tiny bit of space w/ the stock RFT

Escobar, what are the sizes/offsets of your 701s front and back?

no, I'm ok in the rear, minus some fender work to get 265s to fit

I need a spacer for the front. I am not 100% sure on how much room I need yet. The tires arent mounted on since I am waiting on TPMS which should be here tomorrow or sat.

When I did a test fitment w/ only the rim, I had barely 3-5mm of space. So I am assuming I will need a spacer to get just enough room

with an et of 50 for the rear, you should be more than fine

225/40/18 and v710 et45 with KW V2s work on the front.

there's between 1 and 2mm between tire and the coilover.
definitely could not do 235s with an 8.5" wheel.
and I guess it could also depend on the tire's shape. but the V12s fit.

good to know since we have the same set up, I was thinking of getting a 5mm spacer just for peace of mind but I may not if there is enough room

Thanks!

Yeah, it's going to the alignment shop in about 30 minutes. I'm going to have the front lowered a bit more. I'll post after photos later today.

So far, the ride is excellent! Should have done this to other cars I've had years ago!
