What are you guys that run 17" track wheels/tires use? I need sizes, brands, etc.

Why Federal Tires?

I run APEX 17x8.5 ET40 with Hankook RS3v2 245/40 Squared.

Bridgestone RE-71R is the new tire and best thing out there if you want ultimate grip.


Need to fine a way to fit 17x9 with front perch clearance issues. I may have found a way.

They seem popular as far as price vs performance. This will be the first autox season with my 135i. Having just dumped a ton of cash on bushings, coil overs, lsd and another set of daily use summer tires and wheels- I'm looking to spend the least amount possible for a tire I'll get one season out of if I'm lucky. I also doubt my driving expertise will find these tires as the bottleneck for fast lap times.

But, I'm always open to suggestions.

The federal 235/40-17 is actually a 240. Then they jump to a 255 which is actually a 260. I'm not sure of what's actually going to fit under the car yet.

BBS RG-R forged 17x8 et40 fronts and 17x9 et42 are a great choice, albeit expensive

What have you come up with for the perch issues??

And I enjoyed the Federal tires for the track, grip well and were predictable. Didn't like them for auto-x. But after a few track days, they started to separate.

With my TCK DAs the perch sits right at tire height, so you have to respect that clearance or else you'd chew a tire.

How long are those springs? What if you used a shorter spring and raised the perch a little bit?

I learned that STX rules for 2015 no longer allow tires with <200 tw. The Federals are out.

I'm going for a cheap solution that could work really well. The m3 contour 17 " wheel 7.5 inch front and 8.5 inch rear. Light and tough wheels. Tires on them Federal Fz-201. 225/45 front and 235/40 rear. Spot on rim size - tyre size. And mot too staggerd for goog handling.

Hey I'm really interested in your setup. What mods did you do to make them fit ? I currently have swift spec-r (~1.0 inch drop on 4 corners) and ~-2.5 camber front and ready for the fender rolls. Will they fit?

Rolled fenders front and rear, -3+ camber

Really you just need the wheel to sit as close to the perch as possible

I want to keep camber at - 2.0 if possible, 0 toe, up front. Square set up above would be ideal but I'm worried about clearance issues. I'm installing coilovers but will try to keep the drop at less than 0.5". I'm trying to see if anyone has actually tried the above set ups, I couldn't find much info.

Shouldn't have issues, but can't officially confirm since I haven't ran that setup.

If you're not lowering the car much, you shouldn't need to worry about potential rubbing, -2 is kind of light...but with a 8" wheel it should equal out.

General tires get some bad seperation
I think a new favourite of budget brands will be Nangkang tires with their R compound. Was out in EU last year. NA this year
