Transmission compatability

I have a 2008 AT with 125K miles on it. The 4-5 clutches have decided to give up the ghost, and I now am in the market for a used transmission.

I am wondering what other vehicles came with the same ZF transmission. My thinking is that it would be better--if possible--to find a transmission from a low-mileage salvage car, with less potential for abuse, and from a more desirable car, as well.

Can anyone lend me the benefit of your knowledge on this subject?

I'm rebuilding mine now, the overhaul kit, fiber clutches, and zip kit for the valve body cost under $600. Your stuck with the BMW trans.

How difficult would it be to swap from the ZF auto to the 6 speed manual box?

Better off buying a 1 with manual trans, converting cost too much unless you have a wrecked 135 to pick from.
