I detuned my 135 and I like it

I've been running JB3 in my car for years now but recently switched it off (Map 0) when I had the car in for replacement tyres. I haven't switched it back on yet and the past couple of weeks I've been driving it around in factory tune.

Now JB3 is pretty refined but I think we tend to forget about any minor glitches when we drive with it day in and day out. Sure, the car no longer has the straight line oomph and is down a little on power but damn if it isn't silky smooth. The factory mapping really is a delight and well matched to the chassis. Not to mention the new tyres are sweet - Conti Sport Contact 5s.

Anyone else gone back to the factory tune and liked it?

Probably wouldn't be feeling the same way if you were running a Procede.

The tune has come a long way since JB3, probably time to update to JB4.

Still has some minor glitches here and there but MUCH smoother than JB3, and I hate going back to the stock map now!

As much as I love my jb4.
Some times I switch it back to map 0. The car just runs sooo much smoother. It actually feels really good rowing through the gears.

Then I get over it after about 10 mins, and switch the jb4 back on. Lol.

Give JB4 a shot. It's way more refined.

Also I think near 400hp is never as smooth as 300hp. I find the stock maps too laggy but agree they are smooth.

OP the stock power is really smooth but when you are running a forced induction motor such as the N54 well above it's factory boost its never gonna be as smooth as hitting 8psi. The JB3 was great in regards to power but extremely jerky when it comes to boost and a smooth transition of power and torque. The JB3 was good 3-4 years ago but it's extremely outdated. For $150 if I were you I would upgrade to the JB4. I'm sure you'll be quite happy with it.
Even the COBB OTS flash tunes suffer from horrible boost oscillation.

The development of JB4 has been quite revolutionary, especially with the intergration of CANBUS you have full access to the DME. Plus software updates are readily available, it's as easy as attaching a file to an email. I found the JB3 fast but it was also brutal. The JB4 has come a long way in refinement and features, it's definitely worth the investment and I think is a safer product to run in the longterm.

Which new maps v401's? I tried those too. Best option with COBB is ATR IMO.

the 401 had oscillation still but the OTS 402 are leaps and bounds better.

But yes ATR is the best.

I have a procede and turn it on and off regularly. The engine is smoother so I tend to drive this way most of the time, unless I want to have fun!

hate to be a noob, ATR?

I'm using Cobb stage 1 Aggressive Stock Throttle (as I don't have a FMIC), there is also Stage 1 Aggressive Linear Throttle.

So what is ATR?

ATR = Access Tuner Race.

Basically allows you to make your own maps/modify the OTS map to tune the car yourself.

JB4 it is

So I got back onto Terry's site and had a look at the latest developments. It's been a while since I've done any tinkering or had a look around there and you are right - things have certainly come a long way. I'm going to order JB4 tonight.

With regard to using my existing PnP harness - I see there is some minor work required but I haven't read the DIY guide yet. I assume it's pretty simple. I had no difficulty or hesitation doing the original JB3 install myself. It sounds like a very cheap upgrade for a lot of extra features.

Is there anything else I should get at the same time? The proprietary USB cable perhaps? I take it we don't need the chip burner to do our own firmware upgrades anymore (already got one of those).

Good stuff mate. The USB cable is mandatory. Main uses are free software updates, logging and ability read codes.
