Where to buy a helmet in the Sacto area?

Does anyone have any suggestions for places that sell helmets in the Sacto area? I'd normally go online but I'd to try them on to assess fit and comfort.

Closest I know of is wine country motorsports in Sonoma which isn't all that close. You may want to go do a SCCA solo autocross event or an HPDE and borrow one of their helmets that way you can see what size works best for you. You could also go to k1speed or RPM in Sacramento which are karting tracks and try on the helmets they have in order to get an idea of size although I'm pretty sure they don't sell them but who knows. Once you find the size you want the sizes are pretty standard regardless of manufacturer.

Thanks for the reply. I went to Tognotti's this weekend and the selection was so-so.

Do you have any recommendations re: open vs closed face? It's hard to get past opinion vs fact when I google it.

Any sort of sanctioned racing will require full face, so if you ever plan on doing that might as well buy one now rather than buy two. I use an open face and it works good for autox and HPDE events. I have a full face for racing, but I prefer the visibility and the ability to stay cooler with an open face helmet. Plus they are cheaper. You can pick up one for about $150-180 to get you started. Just make sure it's rated SA2010.

Try different manufacturers. Some people have round heads and some people have elongated heads...the helmets at K1 drive me nuts and hurt (they were round)...I took my own helmet the next time I went there.

Beyond that, make sure it's a snug fit and you should be able to shake your head from side to side without the helmet rotating or moving much. Other than that, certifications, vents, brand, and weight determine price. Get a comfortable helmet!

Usually motorcycle shops will have helmets. So you can try searching for motorcycle shops in your area. That's where I got mine.
