E87 Wheel Offsets / fitment.

Hi all,

I'm looking at getting some wheels for my 130i and I'd just like to see if anyone knows if there would be any clearance/rubbing issues...

My current set up:
Suspension: stock M-sport
Wheels: BMW Style 208
7.5x18” et49 205/45 18 (Front)
8.0x18” et49 225/40 18 (Rear)

I'm thinking of getting some new wheels:
VMR VB3
8.5x18" et40 225/40 18 (Front)
9.5x18" et45 255/35 18 (Rear)

I am pretty sure these wheels & tyres will fit on the coupes E82/E88 alright, but I'm not 100% certain if the hatches E81/E87 will have any rubbing or not, particularly in the rear? Might I need to go with a 245/35 rear tyre?

Does anyone have anything to add? Any experiences?

Thanks!

The width and offset of your wheels are correct, but it is better if you mount tires 215/40 and 245/35!
I mount on my e87 8x18 et35 and 9x18 et33, rolled rear fenders and I don't have rubbing problems!
Maybe you need coilovers.....

The offset will depend on the width of the wheel you want. Do you know what size wheels you want?

so what offset is right for the different sizes?

i have to order new wheels now but im still not sure about what to order.

after looking at a billion pictures, i think wide 18"s look better than 19.

so 18x8,5 et38-42 and 18x9,5 et 42-45. will this fit without mods?

i want to roll fenders to get a wider lip on the wheels, has anyone seen excactly how far you can go on the hatch? its supposed to support wider wheels in the back than the coupe.

im looking at Rota wheels now, since i cant find the correct size and offset in ok looking LM replicas.

does anyone know if this will fit:
ROTA MXR 18" Width 10" ET 45 Stud Pattern 5x120
ROTA MXR 18" Width 9" ET 40 Stud Pattern 5x120

The 9" will fit the front, but I doubt the 10" will fit at the rear. The offset is too low - the wheel will poke out beyond the rear fender.

The hatch does have a wider rear, you can fit maybe ~5mm lower offset than the coupe.

you dont think its possible, even with tire stretching? and maybe combine with fender rolling? im looking at coilovers also that can help me with the camber. but if i can fit wide enough wheels without mods to the car id be happy

edit: do you know what et i need for 9,5" rears?

I'd think with stretching, fender rolling and extra camber the 10's could possibly work.
I know 9.5's et45 will fit without much trouble, but 10J et45 will sit 6 or 7 mm further out and I think thats just a bit too much, but if you're going to stretch the tyre, roll your fenders and add camber then it might (just) fit.

8.0 and ET35 is right in the limit, I needed camber to stop rubbing and I am pretty sure that if I track the car it will rub.

The best offset would be 40 with 8.0in fronts, this will allow even 235 tires or 225 square tires.

At 8.5in width you should go 40 MAX! Wheels will look flush but you will need to use narrower tires which loses the point of going to a wider wheel.

40 max? the higher offset, the more the wheel will stick out as i understand it? shouldnt you write minimum 40?

sorry i explained it wrong, ill try again:

40 max? the more the "center" of the weel will stick out (as in where you put the bolts) not the lip. therefore i wonder why ha said 40 max, as more et should be more friendly towards the wheel fitment of the e87? it should be minimum ET40 imo?

I'd go 8.5 wide with 225's all round on a 130i. I doubt 255's really make a difference other than being heavier and slower with an engine that makes 315nm torque. I plan to go 18x8.5 +40 up front with M3 lower arms and 18x8.5 +35 rear and a Quaife LSD to assist traction. My main reason for posting is so I can get my first post and start a thread haha).

seems I posted the below to wrong place (coupé forum instead)

copying to here too

I spent 3 hrs on it last week

e92 m3 style 260m rims on e87 130i M

the result is a failure without special measures

it looks damn sexy though, I will try fitting them with these "special measures" including machining the hub center, cambers, and flaring the arches maybe... will see...

next

I will try sequentially

1 - machining the hub center by 5mm
2 - Fitting 235 or even 225 mm tires instead of 255 at the back
3 - Camber adjustment
4 - Flaring the arches[/list]
Dont want no coil over or spring...

will keep you posted
