135i Feb 2008 build, Sports pack, Steptronic, no Premium Pack = no hood liner.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how much these hood liners weigh?

It appears to be made of foam so my guess is a pound or two at most.

5/08 build 135 man/sport/premium- I have a liner.

Could it be color dependant? I have AW.

And it seems to be quite thin - not as substantial as the trunk lid liner. Of course maybe this is because my car was built on a Tuesday and has carpet floor mats; so perhaps the Thurs/Fri builds with rubber mats have a thicker, heavier version. Hugo, how about another poll?:iono:

cost savings (imo)

BMW discontiued the Liners. Even the new 3 series cars will no longer have them. To me this is just a way to save some money....

edit: for those wondering what they are, they are "fire blankets" in case of overheating the plastic tabs melt, dropping the "blanket" on the engine

According to BMW's service roundtable, they're not using hood liners any more. There is no way (options, color, etc.) to determine which cars have liners and which don't. If your car didn't come with one from the factory, you cannot get one from the dealership.

Feb. build, sport, premium, 6 MT, Cashmere Silver. No liner.

I thought one point of a liner was to protect the paint on the hood from excessive temperature swings? Maybe that's not an issue with modern paints?
