TPMS - Inactive warning

Hi,

I recently purchased new winter tires and wheels from Town Fair Tire for my 11' 135i. They mounted and balanced everything this weekend. After a few miles down the road, the TPMS warning came on indicating "Inactive".

I reset the warning per the owner's manual 3-4x now with no luck. I brought the car back this evening to TFT and they verified using their equipment the TPMS is functioning properly and reset again but no luck.

After the money I spent with them there's no way I'm letting this go. I'm thinking they are most likely using a non-OEM sensor and it's just not compatible which in that case they need to order ones that will work.

I'm curious if anyone else had a similar experience or advice.

Thanks!

I had that issue and it was the central module. It was replaced by warranty. I had the same issue as you, problem started after I switched wheels.

My local BMW Dealer took a look today and it was as I originally expected - Town Fair Tire used a non-OEM TPMS which registers fine on their handheld tool but the car is rejecting them for whatever reason. Dealer checked the RDC but it was working fine.

TFT is now ordering OEM TPMS which should hopefully work.

Well, got mine finaly yesterday and they said the R/R sensor was faulty and replaced it. Start driving home and about 20 miles down the road the inactive light came back up, will take it tomorrow and see what is wrong this time

After a second trip to the dealer it's finally fixed, at least i hope so, lol. They ended replacing all wheels tpms sensors and re-flash the DME, will see if that holds...

I am bringing my car back to TFT tomorrow to have them put in OEM BMW TPMS sensors and take out the ones they got from the Tire Rack. Hoping this does the trick.

After replacing the tire rack tpms with BMW oem ones, the warning light has gone away. My tire people swear the other ones should work but the car wants what the car wants I guess.
