OT? BMW color pallet rant
Maybe this isn't the best forum, but this is my "home" here at 1addicts, so here goes:
Why does BMW have such limited color pallets? I considered trading up to an M3 but was disappointed at the VERY limited color selection for both exterior and interior. Now the new 3er sedan and the leaked 4er order sheets confirms that the trend is getting worse. If you order the M-Sport, the top line trim, you have FEWER color choices both inside and out. WTF? I just don't understand. Can someone explain the logic behind this? Are they trying to force more customers to pay the Individual prices? I'd be much happier with access to all the colors (even if there isn't a green), all interior trims (not a fan of the aluminum) and all the interior colors (brown, but not brown plastic dash pieces). /endrant

With BMW's Individual program you can get any color you wish for. Some colors are only a $1,500 option while the "full boat" Individual custom order colors will run a cool $5K.
Same goes for the interior option colors. You can special order a BMW in almost any color combo you wish. As long as BMW Individual deems it tasteful. You ought to go visit the BMW Niederlassung and see some of these special cars. They really are special.

Afaik you can get any color you want via the Individual program, which applies to all cars starting with the 3-series and higher. Definitely more expensive than the normal colors but you basically get to go with whatever you want. But I am not totally sure that also applies to M-cars, but why the hell not?

Except the Individual program would end up costing $8000+ more because you can't get the same discount available to us here through military sales.
I'd like to see a brown 335i M-sport, or one of the blues that are available on other trim lines. I like light brown leather interior (I ordered terracotta on my 135). That's not available on the M-Sport but is available on other trim levels. I would prefer the anthracite wood trim to the aluminum, but the M-Sport can't get it. Makes no sense to me that the top trim level gets fewer choices.

When I ordered my 1er, I was really bummed by the color choices. Basically red, white, gray, black, and 23 shades of blue.

Have they said what the color choices will be on the M235i US spec yet?
Really curious what they will have. Also the new M4 will have a yellow option which is awesome to see again. I agree though, I wish they didnt force you to go through the overpriced Individual program to get colors that cost them no more than the "released" colors. Its all a marketing thing. |

Having been to the Regensburg plant, every time the paint booth (there were only two) changed colors it required a technician to change the applicator tips on the robot & he had to purge the system and lines to ensure nothing remained of the previous color.....so.....
I estimate the whole process took about 45 mins...so that's 90 additional minutes of labor & a few more Euro in plastic parts. Even with all that it's still very profitible My personal favorite was Arctic Metallic. Sometimes blue, sometimes gray, sometimes greenish.

After seeing the leaked 4er order sheet I think the colors will be identical to the current 3er sedan.

Now I see a post that the 3er wagon will be sold in the US, if you want AWD, automatic, and the base engine. Talk about freedom from choice...

2014 BMW 435i and 428i Order Guides Reveal Lines, Options and Packages
U.S. BMW dealers have now received order forms for ordering their first demo 435i and 428i coupes (just as they did recently for the 2014 X5), and the forms give us a good general preview of the different lines, options and packages to expect for the 2014 BMW 435i and 428i (U.S. configuration). Not much surprises on here, but it does show that full LED head lights will be available on the 4 Series (just as we spied up-close yesterday) and it may be equipped with the new 609 Navigation Professional system. There are also some new M Sport wheels options (Style 441M and 442M). Like the F30 3 Series, the 4 Series coupe will be available in "Lines" but it does not appear to be available in a Modern Line. The order forms list Luxury Line, Sport Line, and M Sport Lines. The official customer order guides will be made available closer to the start of production, which begins this July for the F32 coupe and November for the F33 convertible. The US will get the 428i and 435i coupes, in RWD and xDrive versions. The European model lineup can be seen in this previous post showing VIN model lookup results. In its first model year (2014), the 435i coupe will be powered by the same N55 engine as the current F30 335i sedan (with the same power output) and the 428i is likewise powered by the same N20 engine as the current F30 328i sedan.
