Does anyone have a solution to this? I may have to just crack open the housings and see where the wires go and see if i can manually trace which pins send a signal to where when.
Ah your car is like my twin...really considering doing the 1M mirror conversion, if you could post some pictures of the car overall that'd be great for me to see how it looks!

The wheels and AW make it close enough

1M Pins

Just because they look great!
If your new mirrors have 5 connectors you have the non-LIN bus/Low mirror versions (51168051913 & 51168051914).

3 pins: Lin-bus/High: features electric folding, auto dip, mirror memory, curb monitor, heating and positioning
5 pins: regular/Low: features heating and positioning

if you want these lower spec-ed mirrors to work you need to re-wire a little bit and code out auto dip option 431 and/or folding mirrors option 313. Your best bet is to sell these and get the right M mirrors (51168051923 & 51168051924) for your car:

I just got my 1m mirrors. ( 51168051923 & 51168051924) These only have three pins. My car has auto dip and dim with power fold. I hope they are the right ones. I have my vin# verified before I ordered.

Based on your info (but without checking the part#) these are correct for your car and will be plug and play (because they have 3 connected pins on a LIN-bus car!)

They'll look great on any e8X!

Looks awesome! Hey guys newbie question, if I buy just those part numbers mentioned above, do I still need to buy the cover and glass? Can I re-use my old ones or is the shape completely different for both? Thanks

No you can't reuse the glass, it's completely different shape.
Should have my conversion bits shortly.

I've just got a set of 1M mirrors with 3 pin (aka fully spec'd), my mirrors on the other hand are only heated (5 pin). Once I receive the glass in 1-2 weeks I'll be swapping the motors out from my standard mirrors into the M mirrors and see if it works.
I've already taken apart the M mirrors and cut the yellow/white wires since they are for auto-fold and auto-dim, neither of which I have. The rest should just plug back in as usual and (hopefully) function as it did before.

Make sure you have the correct RHD or LHD set!!
Tools needed - hex screw driver
Time required - 15 mins each
Pitfalls to avoid - do not drop the screws behind the door trim!

Sorry for the hazy pics folks!

Pic 1 - the triangular sail cover, in some cars may house a tweeter, is removed by pulling on it backwards along the window, from left to right as it is on the pic.
here is a video demonstrating how to remove and instal the covers
https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...&v=lUYtEk93XSU

Pic 2 - this exposes 2 of the screws holding the mirror on to the door frame and the power and controls plug

Pic 3 - location of the 3rd screw. unplug the connection by gently pulling on it and wiggling side to side. Undo the screws and gently remove the mirror by lifting the bottom edge and then pulling the mirror down from underneath the rubber seal.

Installation in reverse - ensure the mirror base plate goes under the rubber seal on top of the door, and that the rubber electrical socket lining is in good position in the opening of the door frame. Secure with screws, plug the connection back in and test it - you may need to start the car for the test or press the power button x2. Replace the triangular sail by wedging the bottom side of the triangle in the door trim and then sliding the top part of the sail along the window until the clips have locked it in place.

Pic 4 and 5 - before and after shot
hi there, thanks for sharing this project. i got a 2008 e87 130i, are you sure the 1m mirror will fit my car? many thanks

So I swapped the motors from my old mirrors over to the 1M mirrors and they work completely fine. Heating function, adjustment work just like my standard mirrors - took about 1 hour to install including swapping the motors.

So you can confirm swapping motors works? I've been on the fence about this due to price. If I can buy the cheaper housing and switch the motors that would be a great way to save a few hundred.

Curious on this, do you have auto dip/fold? Did it work after swapping the motors?

Thanks.

I don't have autofold or auto dip, if you have those functions you cant swap the motors because they have 2 wires that are in the actual mirror unit and cant be unplugged - that's if you're going from auto dip/auto fold mirrors to 1M mirrors that don't have those feautures. If you're going from auto to auto it should all just plug in and work.

The 1M mirrors I have had these wires and they were for auto fold and auto dip so I just cut the wires as I didn't have those options - hooked up the rest and it worked like usual.

Really basic question here. Do I need to disconnect battery for this mod? Answer is no.

Anytime where you have to unplug a wire, it's recommended that you disconnect the battery. It's better to be safe than to fry something right?
