Painted calipers

Anyone consider painting their calipers yellow, orange, or red? I personally love the color variation on a black car/rims like that especially on the highway.. Looking for an opinion or writeup on the matter

There's a thread somewhere here where an owner painted his calipers red using a kit from Rustoleum...

I used a Dupli-color kit. It includes a can of brake cleaner you use to clean the calipers plus a can of brush on paint and a flux brush, maybe 2 to apply the paint with. I use flux brushes to apply glue when doing woodworking. Their original application is the application of flux to copper pipes when you are soldering them. They are cheap, stiff, low quality brushes. They work fine for this and I would recommend having extras.

It works fine and you don't have to take the caliper off to do it. I did this several years ago and the paint is still OK. Most of the effort is getting the caliper clean enough to paint.

The end result will not look like a 135i or a BMW performance caliper, however. The 128i casting is pretty rough in comparison. It would be possible to smooth it prior to paint application but that would increase the size of the job by a lot.

I vote for dark colours, Bronze, copper, Gun metal, Black.

I have seen a black 128i with red calipers and it was meh.

I used G2 for my Volvo, back in the day, and it worked EXTREMELY well. Never faded and was a smooth finish.

G2 from TireRack. Works well. Just plan everything out (have all four wheels off at the same time), prepped and masked, and work quickly. Try and do it with average temps (55-75). Have a lot of light handy. One coat will do it but you can touch up as needed. It sets up fast.

PS: they have a pretty pink color also.

This is an email from BREMBO:

Caliper finish should not be stripped or sandblasted. The painted surfaces should be lightly sanded, prepped and repainted. All other areas that are metal or anodized (silver or black) finish need to be taped off.

The following mounting surfaces should not be painted.

· The anodized area under the head of the caliper bolt.

· The anodized area of the caliper that rests against the spindle or caliper adapter bracket.

· The anodized area where the brake line mates to the caliper.

Type of paint:

High quality 2 or 3 stage automotive or aircraft paint can be used.

Special Notes:

· Pistons should not be removed.

· Two piece calipers should never be taken apart under any circumstances.

· Stiffening bridges, stainless abutment plates or any other parts not listed above should not be removed.

· We do not recommend powder coating
