Help finding orange 17 inch wheels for 128i

I really wanted to buy a set of 17 inch oz alleggeritas in orange. I just found out they are special order only at tirerack. Takes 60 days. I really need them in a few days. Does anyone know where I can get this wheel now. Does anyone know another lightweight 17 inch wheel that comes in bright orange, That fits, that is in-stock somewhere???

Something that niche, probably only going to be a special order.

sorry,

yep, don't see that happening. You could always order a color that's in stock and then have it refinished in the orange color you like but I'd recommend just getting them from the rack and waiting it out.

Okay, maybe orange rims are out

ok, different question. I have a 128i without sports package (sucks i know). it has 205/50/17's.

I want to change the rims and tires. i do NOT want to mess with the suspension at all. I do not want the fender gap to be increased when i put on the new rims/tires. I do not want the car to look jacked up either.

what would be best?

going ... same size:
205/50/17 - what if i wanted a wider tire in 17?

215/40/18 - would i need to lower ther car for this to look good?

225/35/19 - im considering this if it would have the least fender gap, not looked jacked up

If you want to keep 17" wheels, 225/45 17 are probably the way to go. That is the stock size on 128i rear wheels with sport package. You can typically run 225/45 17s on anywhere between 7-8" width wheels, though 7.5-8" width is probably best.

I ran 225/45 17 on my stock sport package wheels (7" up front and 7.5" in the rear) and I though it looked good, thought not as aggressive as some may prefer.

I also ran 225/45 17 winter tires on both 17x8" rims and 17x7.5" rims (both with 40mm offset) and both worked and looked fine.

If you search some of my threads in the wheels section, you can find pictures of the various setups. See this thread for example:
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=267999

I also had a set of autocross wheels/tires which were 235/40 17s all around on 17x8 et40 wheels. These were slightly smaller diameter and did not look quite as good. They also could rub very slightly up front when going over a large bump, but not during normal driving.

Hope this helps. I am sure the 135i guys can give you lots of advice for an 18" setup.

Thank you. That really helped. From using the tire size comparison calculators available online, it looks like the setup you recommend is 0.10 inch or 2.54 mm smaller in diameter to my stock setup. That shouldn't look jacked up, especially with a wider track.

Seems like all the 17 wheels that fit my car are 17x8 or 17x8.5. can i run 17x8 rims on 225/45/17 up front????
Was thinking of ordering 17x8 wheels and 225/45/17 tires all around.
What about 17x8.5 all around with that tire?
Want to make sure before buying.
Thanks.

I believe you are starting to push the envelope with an 8.5" up front, and you would certainly have to take care and make sure that the offset was appropriate (so that is didn't rub the strut or the wheel well). I know with an 8" width and a 40mm offset you will be ok (probably anything 35-45mm would be ok). Gill@Tirerack can certainly help you understand what wheel/tire combinations are doable.

Actually, the only reason to run 8.5" width would be if you wanted to run something like a 255 width tire, which you certainly can't run up front with stock setup. Honestly, if you run 225's all around, stick with a 7.5" (et40-50) or 8" (et 35-45) width.

Is you compare the stock 128i sport setup, you have 7" et47 in front and 7.5" et47 in rear. This puts the external face of the wheel 41.9mm (front) or 48.25mm (rear) from the hub face. To match this with a 7.5" or 8" wheel so that it looks like stock, you would need the following offsets:

7.5" --- 53.3mm (front) --- 47.0mm (rear)
8.0" --- 59.7mm (front) --- 54.6mm (rear)

In reality these 50+ offsets will not be available (and may rub the strut), so you end up with a slightly more aggressive looking wheel face that is a little bit farther to the outside of the car.

So if you went with a 17x8 et40 (a very common combination), then your wheels would "stick out" about 3/4" (front) and 3/4" (rear without sport package) than your stock non-sport package wheel setup.

You may be able to find something with a 47mm offset that would reduce this to about 1/2", but it can be difficult, especially in 17". Though I know that some of the OEM BMW wheels, on the Z4 for example, had offsets of close to 50mm.

Update

I decided that thebest thing I could with my 128i without sports suspension and with the crappy steptronic transmission was trade that mf'r in

just left the dealer with my 2011 135 with 7speed dbl clutch auto. Sports package w m steering wheel. This is a totally different car. Wow!

Hahaha. I knew you were going to say that.

You are a cool guy. Thanks for the input.

At the end of the day, for what I would have payed for tires and rims plus my next car payment, well I just put that money down. BMWs 1.9 finance rocks and the dealer went above clean trade and still discounted the 135.
