135 Tire/Rim Issue - Alufelgen Cracked Rims
All,
I have a bit of a dilemma on my hands and am wondering how I can best fix it from an appearance purpose and also a financial purpose. Last week, I ordered 4 new tires for my 135i (keeping budget in mind): - 265/30 R19 Continental Extreme Contact (Rear) - 225/35 R19 Michelin Pilot Sport (Front) After taking the car today to the tireshop (Discount Tire), I found out that both of my rear rims have a 'hairline crack' that is about 1 inch large on both rims. Therefore, Discount Tire does not want to replace the tires for safety reasons (which I agree with). The car drives fine but has been experiencing some tire pressure problems, which I figured was a nail or something and since I needed new tires nearly anyway, figured I would just replace them all at the same time. But, now with two slightly cracked rear rims, I need to replace the rims first. The rims I have are Alufelgen SF-71 19s (in silver). I have now researched and called around enough to figure out that my best hope to find two rear rims will be via the forums or eBay as the company has folded and is no longer in business. So, my question to you all: Should I consider buying a new set of rims? I have never been a fan of the silver color and would like a set of black rims. I also am not entirely sure what size my rear rims are - I just purchased the same size tires as what is currently on them. Photo for reference of the car: I have already made a WTB post too: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...php?p=17026392 Last edited by Dont Try To Run; 12-03-2014 at 05:53 PM.. |

Might be able to have them repaired and then powdercoated. Mine have been real champs with the shitty road quality here in charleston. Wonder how yours cracked.

- Have the wheels reconditioned/repaired
- Buy matching tires - Wheel specs are engraved on the inside of the wheel, on the hub

Sorry, missed the last question:
From your picture, you should have 19x9.0 et 48 on the rear.

Thank you both. Yes, the Houston roads (downtown area) are pretty brutal and I think I just need to be more careful. I did just purchase the car (with the rims) about 9 months ago but I highly doubt the owner had this issue (or at least was not aware of it). Everything else about the car is 100% spot on and he took great care of her.
I will keep my eyes open for a matching rear set (or even all 4). I also will try and find a place who will recondition/repair them for me, as that would be preferred probably cost-wise and as long as it is works, I am fine with it. |

You can try asking your insurance company for a referral to someone who can repair the wheel.
Whether or not it is fixable will be up to a professional.

I bought 2 OEM style 264 wheels used off forums, 2 different sellers... both supposed to be in "great condition". Both were bent. I bought 1 "remanufactured" aka refurbished aka repaired wheel from one of the larger retailers of those. It wasnt true either. I'll never buy a used wheel again... just my experience. YMMV.

I will be having the wheels checked out today by a reputable shop in Houston to see if they will repair and refinish them for me. Stay tuned. I will take pictures of the cracks as well today and will post them on here.

I have seen several FSs for OEM rims on this site and for not too much money. BTW, I'd stick with 18".
I'd never repair rims with hairline cracks especially when two have failed. Toss them in the junk. |
