Playing video off ipod

On my 3gs with snap in adapter, the video icon is grey and cant be selected. On my 4s through the usb cable, the icon is not an option. Guess i need the iphone 4 media adapter. Not sure if it will work on the 4s though.

I tried at the dealership using iPhone 4S.

The video is available to select but when play, the screen is black but the audio is fine....

I dont know why... myabe the adapter is not installed correctly?

But the iPod plugin works .

and the good thing is, for anyone listening to chinese/japanese songs, the ipod plugin did work and actually show chinese/jap characters which is cool.

But $250 to see chinese/jap and not able to view video? I passed...

So does anyone know if bmw is releasing a new media adapter for the 4s? No other way to play video? Usb doesnt seem to work either.

4s fits fine in the 4 media adapter.

Im sure it fits. But it sounds like it doesnt work fully which is suprising

The 4s does everything in the adapter that our 4 did (phone, BMW Apps, iTunes Pandora), we do not run video through the system so i can't verify that functionality.

Nope. Sorry. Tried again tonight. I was obviously accessing my vids via the phone and not via the pod. Pod doesn't play vids, no matter how I set it up.

So can you explain how you were able to view video from your iPhone?
what iPhone do you have and what snap in adapter do you have?

I have an IPhone 4 and don't ask me which adapter. The one my dealer ordered for me.

I had to activate all the BMW Connected Drive and online stuff and that was basically it. Stick the phone in the cradle and you have an icon to view videos when you select the phone as multimedia option. NOT via the plugin (that only allows me access to my music) but via the standard selection menu.

So does your car have to be optioned with BMW Apps for you to be able to do this?

Did you pay for the bmw assist premier? I know google only works with it

If I remember correctly, then the assist was part of the nav package here in Germany. I have all the Google stuff (very practical in dd btw).

Ok, i can confirm the iphone 4 media adapter with part number ending in 390,has full function including video on the 4s. This is the silver adapter with the small fan. 280 bucks from the stealership.

Funny side story. I go to parts dept and ask for the iphone 4 media adapter and give the part numer.

Parts guy, " what car is it for so i can be sure it will fit?"
Me, " 1 series M or 1m"
Parts guy, " what year?"
Me, "2011, only year available in us."
Parts guy, " no that car was made 2009-2011"
Me, " the 1 series m? "
Parts guy, "yes definetly 2009-2011. Im certain"
Me, " sorry thats incorrect, we can check with sales manager if you like?"
Parts, " not necessary, im certain!"
Me, " how certain, care to put 100 bucks cash on that?"

He declined at which point the sales manager approaches and says is that your 1m? Yes, it is. Care to tell the parts guy what year it was made? 2011, only year!! So sad these dealership know less than customers and them choose to argue with them about it. Sales manager was nice though and came out to see the car in person as he hadnt seen a aw.

Also, I used the dvd in motion from, dvdinmotion.com. Works great! I know I could have coded for free but I don't have the time to read about how to do it! And before anyone comments, the DVD in motion is so my 18 month old can watch Elmo when he rides with us.

Do you needs BMW Apps to view videos saved on the iPhone?
