1M Nurburgring/Spa
New to this forum but I thought that I would share two recent trips that I had with the 1M.
I have just sold a 997 GT3 RS so I am comparing the 1M to some tough competition! Bought the car from Cooper Croyden on the 25th February with 2300 miles on the clock. Modifications include a re-map by DMS and spare wheels with Michelin Cup tyres for track use plus upgraded brake fluid and front pads. Seven weeks later the car now has 6000 miles on the dash after two trips. Nurburgring Two day track day in dry conditions. The car performed very well without any problems. Top speeds on straights were generally speaking only down by 10 mph compared to the RS. 172 mph (speedo) just before the bridge on the main straight! To get the best out of the car the suspension could do with an upgrade. Spa Dry conditions. With a much smoother surface the 1M was excellent. Amazing grip levels from the Cups. 120 mph exit speed out of Pouhon and 140/150 mph before Les Combes. Have to say that I am very impressed with the car. Only downside the car now needs a service in 2000 miles as opposed to 16000 miles before I set out to the Ring. |

Had the same trip last year, and same thoughts about suspension!
Btw, how did the brakes hold up in SPA? About inspection, car was also showing ~ 3000 km after trackdays, but after some road use it has climbed back to 10000 km and holding tight there. I still made an oilchange, just to be sure What`s the reason behind changing from 997 RS, because that would be my dream car/if all goes well - next car |

RS sold to pay for sons schooling!
The brakes held up without any problems at Spa much to my surprise. Although remember that I do have upgraded fluid and front pads but even so they were very good and had plenty of "feel" The RS is without any doubt a better track car but let's face it it was built to do just that. There's much more drama with the RS but it is also harder to drive at the limit compared to the 1M. The RS will comfortably lap all day long without incident whereas I am not sure that the 1M would. In my opinion a pro driver would lap quicker in the RS but for the rest of us I don't think there's that much in it. The RS is quicker on the straight but the 1M has amazing grip in the corners, especially on Cups, which then gives the driver bags of confidence. Some of the corners at Spa I was literally throwing the car in to see what would happen and it just gripped. Some under steer but again with KW suspension this could easily be resolved by adding more camber. Overall I'm disappointed that I sold the RS but the 1M is an amazing all round car plus it's more comfortable driving across Europe! Just need to some BMW Performance Seats now....... |

So it seems that, according to your experience, the 1M wasn't put to shame compared to the 997 GT3 RS 4.0. Not bad for an "entry model ///M". Porsche must hate that dwarf called the 1M biting their heels.
Belgian prices (without options): - BMW 1M = €51,300 - 997 GT3 RS 4.0 = €182,831 So if you get an AW 1M + VO 1M + BSM 1M, you still got almost €30K left if you skip the option of getting a 997 GT3 RS 4.0 !
