1M ED, Who's In?

Well, for those that are still on the 1M train, I would like to propose that we little Oz bunch of 1Mers lobby to have a "once off" European Delivery Group pickup.

So to try and convince those who make things happen I think that we should get some names together and lobby as a "Group Buy In For ED".

To make this happen I propose adding names to this post to pass on REAL numbers to BMW of thoise wishing for the experience. Perhaps BMW Oz could make it an article for the BMW Magazine or something "Australian Buyers Take Delivery Of Their 1M's In Munich", there may then be an opportunity to set up a small photo shoot or something with all there, perhaps at the Ring, just an idea.... It could have the potential for a good marketing exercise for BMW Australia.

So IF you are serious, add your name for the chance of a lifetime, remember BMW Australia does NOT do ED so this would be a first if we can make it happen!

WHO WOULD COMMITT TO A EUROPEAN DELIVERY OF THEIR 1M?

I don't see an issue. RHD and LHD can be driven/registered in EU and GB...

Question for you is, how much of a premium are you willing to pay for that?

Obviously not an insignificant amount given there would be 2 or 3 air tickets and minimum hotel accomodotion involved, whats that, say $10k for starters

Anyway, how do you put a price on something as special as picking up YOUR car from the German factory and driving say to Nurburgring then down to Monte Carlo back up through the Solvio Pass. WOW (and testing the speedlimiter........ legally)

Btw Alpine, I think there is another 10-20k premium on Euro delivery on top of the airfare and accommodation etc. But I would love to do it. I've been asking BMW and Porsche about this possibility for years.

Exactly my point, safety, in the case strength, in numbers. If enough of us ask to do this for the same limited build car, in the same batch for example, and push the "BMW article thing" then it may happen... with little extra costs to us.

I don't mean to be the proverbial "fly in the ointment" but how would you go for insurance just in case you wrap said 1M around a German tree or barrier on the Autobahn?

Would it not make sense to hire one at the Ring - thrash the hell out of it and come home to your own pristine 1M?

To me it's a Brain vs Heart issue....Brain says if you are going to spend +$100k on the car plus all the extras as eluded to in previous posts ( flights, accommodation 10-20k premium for ED etc) you may as well buy an E92 M3.

Brain also says you've shelled out +++ on a car that will plummet in value within a year - ask any E9x M3 owner.

Heart says though that if you are prepared to burn the dollars, then go for it!

If you're living in London it's probably not worth buying a vehicle unless you need it to drive to school every day. You also can't just buy a U.S. spec and bring it over, you'd have to get a UK spec as well.

Been researching this lately and so long as I export the car within a year I'll be fine. And I wouldn't be able to drive it all the time. But weekend trips to places would be awesome. Plan trips into france, the British isles, Germany, etc
