weiweiwei thanks for the info. Does anyone have a suggestion on what would be a reasonable offer to make to the dealer when negotiating on purchasing the vehicle? This will obviously vary from dealer to dealer.

I see US buyers often say that they meet somewhere in the middle between the sticker and invoice. In Canada it is probably different because there is much less competition between BMW dealerships if any unless it is Toronto.

Thanks rururu! When it comes time to purchase, probably October, I will have to see what I can negotiate as far as pricing. I think meeting them half way like you have suggested may be a good strategy.

most US and Canadian dealerships is playing poker with you. Basically even if you tell them you got the invoice price list, they still call you bluff unless you show them their prices are wrong. My dealer tried to do that until i told him the exact amt he should charge me.

At BMW Gallery in Calgary (or even Calgary BMW, same owner), they will not sell the E90s (325/330) at below invoice. However, if you trade in another vehicle like I did, and they value your car say at $10,000, I complained and told them that if they wanted me to spend over $60K, bring it up to $11,000 (plus the trade in tax) and throw in the full 3M protection film, I would come with a cheque and purchase the car. I ended up inking the deal with them and now have my 330i!

i bought the report from carcostcanada, it lets me submit what I would like to pay for example 2% over invoice etc.. and they would then submit it to dealers and I can see if they settle or counter offer.

I have a car to trade in as well, it's a 2000 PRELUDE SH 95000KM standard transmission.

Canadian black book value says:

Based on the kilometers entered
and the options selected, your vehicle's classification
is appraised as: Average.

Depending on your vehicle's condition, the value may be appraised within the High and Low range. * less Reconditioning Costs

Low: $11,180.00 High: $13,220.00

In the buysell i see them advertise for 15-18K, and average about 16K. I've had some claims in this car (I'm 2nd owner) so I guess private probably around 15K is what I should be expecting?

Any tactics for negotiating when trading in? I'm worried that they can settle for a low price on the new car, but then give me a low trade in.

Ponchoyu, you probably meant BMW Gallery will not sell under the MSRP cause nobody expects them to sell their vehicles under the invoice. Still, the statement is not completely true as they offered me $300 CAD off the base 325I. I do not understand why in most of the places in North America you can buy e90 with 3-4% off the MSRP but not in Calgary. What does make these two dealerships in Calgary different? Monopoly?

I wonder if I it makes sense for me to try to buy the car from Edmonton? Will there be any disadvantages later on in terms of maintenance in Calgary and so on?

I've visited 3 dealers in Toronto and the best I've gotten is that they offer a 'courtesy' discount. Probably no more than $500 but I haven't indicated I'm ready to sign just yet. Canucks get screwed in more ways than one when buying cars. Dealer invoice will help. We'll see what justification they offer for $4K profit on a 330i!! Thanks for the info weiweiwei.

I used to have a '97 Prelude (same body style as yours) and needed to get a new 2001 Accord for the 4 doors.

I advertised in the Auto Trader and found a buyer.

The Honda dealer where I was buying the new Accord from allowed me to bring the buyer into the dealership so that I could do a trade and he in turn would actually buy the Prelude off of the dealership.

This way, I got the max. for my car by doing a "private" sale as well as "trading it in" to save the taxes. Then I reimbursed the buyer one of the taxes because if he bought it directly off me, then he would only pay one tax.

I would suggest you try to do the same thing.

So it looks like Canadian BMW dealers want to be more tough than their buddies across the boarder. 800 dollars is like 2%, which is not enough.
