OK so far we've got:

LHD cars 25 11 8 036 628
RHD cars 25 11 8 036 629

Which I believe are the knobs in jwocky's post.

Then we have xyz123's of: 25 11 7 896 886 which is weighted.

And finally there is the pic of tiga901's knob with no part number.

Questions: I like the leather look of the first one the best but it looks just as tall as the original knob on the car, is it? Also is this knob weighted?

Secondly, is there a pic out there of the 25 11 7 896 886 becuase I believe that it was said the that one was weighted.

Thirdly is there a part number for tiga901's knob so that we know that we are indeed talking about a different knob then the rest?

Thanks alot,

Jesse

The photograph attached to TIGA901's post is of the E46 M short knob. I might be wrong, but as far as I know you cannot get an unweighted M knob.

Are the rest E90 knobs or does it not make a difference because they fit the same?

I think jwocky's photo is basically the same stock knob that is better trimmed with leather. If it is, it is still looks tall and not sporty enough. The e46 m knob would still look better(not because I have one).

Ok so xyz123's and tiga901's pic are the same knob correct?

Does anyone know difinitively that the LHD cars 25 11 8 036 628
RHD cars 25 11 8 036 629 are indeed the same knobs we get stock just trimmed differently. I would really love those knobs shorter and weighted, I think they look sweet!

I am puzzled as to why the E90 LHD and RHD knobs have different part numbers. I can't see why one knob would not work for both. Just curious; anyone have an explanation?

Id say it due to its angular design.
It must fit properly into the drivers hand, which comes from a different angle in LHD compared to RHD cars.

This isnt a problem on a rounded knob

Garage List
I went to my dealer here in the UK and gave them the part number for the RHD M-Sport E90 knob - they wanted £74 + VAT for it and they weren't even arriving in Germany until the 7th Nov so it would be a while before I got it. Shame there aren't any on eBay or a web shop...

Well I did some research today on the MSport shift knob "25 11 8 036 628".

My local BMW dealer $153.40
Irvine BMW $130
Circle BMW $104
Pacific BMW $94.61

I checked and said that there was no stock whatsoever in the US or Germany. Not quite sure what that means, I guess they will make one for me when I order it.

When I go the first qoute I about shit but $95 I can feel add it to my christmas list without feeling guilty.

Does anybody know if they ever made an alacantra (did I spell that right?) knob for the ZHP or the M3 to go along with the alacantra steering wheel? That might be a nice alternative.

No, ZHP uses short E46 one shown in this thread

Alcantara doesnt last, thats why the last E46 ZHP models lost the alcantara steering wheels and got ones similar to E90 M sport ones.

I know one guy with a M3 CSL that has had his alcantara steering wheel replaced 2 imes because it wears through

Doh, didn't know that ... nevermind then, I'll stick to the e46 ZHP. Maybe I'll wait to see what else comes along, not really feeling the dimpelled m-sport shifter. I didn't remember seeing that in the pics before.

xyz123: The part #s are different because the shifter includes the leather boot which at the base is shaped differently for LHD/RHD versions. I got one in Stuttgart (85 Euro) and was surprised that the leather was part of "the part"...you can't detach the leather from the shifter.
