buying a 135i at 46k miles

I am really considering a 1 series that I found. Do you think this is a terrible idea?

My problem:

I want a 6 speed, red interior, convertible 135i. Any other option is not important. I have only found 1 car that fits this description in the US right now under $35k.

What do you think of buying one with 46k miles?

that isnt a big deal to me so much. If you are planning on keeping it for a while then maybe the miles are a little high. But I wouldnt really be concerned with it if i plan on dumping it around 100K Go CPO for sure.

I don't think your'e looking hard enough. Quick glance at the BMW site showed 3 convertible 6-speeds w/ red interior just in the first couple pages, of 12 pages total.

http://nitra.bmwcpodealer.com/cpo/Ve...-NY/1904532573
http://nitra.bmwcpodealer.com/cpo/Ve...-AZ/1895647863
http://nitra.bmwcpodealer.com/cpo/Ve...-AZ/1913213083

Granted they could be sold, or mislabeled, but it seems to me there's more than just 1 to choose from.

Also, FYI, if you're really seriously looking, you need to check *all* ads on the BMW site, ebay, and etc., because a ton of 6-speeds get labeled as automatics and vice-versa. You can't trust what's written in the ads, you must look at the pics. It's highly annoying!

What year is the car you're looking at? I just bought mine, a 2008 with 41k on it. According to the previous owner it was all highway miles. Check the maintenance records. If those check out, I say go for it.

$22k seems kind of cheap for that car.

I bought mine with 40K, cpo.

Things I checked for:
- was it ever tuned?
- was it ever in a crash?
- Pulled the BMW maintenance log for it.

Everything was clear. Next step, had my mechanic pull the intake manifold off and clean out the carbon (and there was a ton at 40K).

Since then the car has run flawlessly. I've only been in once for a warranty item (drives side window regulator). In fact, it has been far more trouble free then the 335i I bought brand new and sold at 39K miles.

I say go for it.

I wouldn't be scared off by the mileage, 46K really isn't that much at all....There are plenty of other things to look at, but the mileage wouldn't be what bothered me in this scenario.

$22k isnt bad at all. Just make sure service is up to date, get a PPI, pull a carfax & autocheck.

It's interesting what Americans see as high miles compared to us Europeans. My boss was looking for a used 5-series and wouldn't even look at any of them with less than 100K miles.

Every single car you buy should come with a full service history. If that checks out fine, then get after it.

I bought mine with 49k and it's 2008. Then I drove it from Utah to Connecticut. Currently, I have 60k on it.

I'm not sure about others, but I don't have any problem so far, and it doesn't show any signs of issue either.

I know there are some number of problems on the 1 series, but I never got those either. (e.g no HPFP issue, brake light, etc) It does help that I have full warranty on the car until 100k or 2017.

Plus, the previous owner had record of every work that was done on the car. All dealer work.

Hopefully, the car that you are looking at has good service report and honest seller. (if private.)

I picked up a Sedona Red 2011 135i with DCT, sport package, premium package, heated seats, etc with 20,000 miles for $27000 still covered for 20 months under the factory warranty. Clean Carfax, off lease...one owner.

...Yesterday :-). So I'm introducing myself as well.

I mention it because there are great deals out there and this one required quite a bit of patience. I kept an eye out for six months and this one sat on a lot long enough to get it at what I think is a great price.

And as a new 135 owner, and someone who has had many nice cars, what an amazing machine.

Buyers get scared off on these cars because whether its a fact or not, they know that the turbo version of these cars are beat practically into oblivion.

I love seeing an add for a car with lots of aftermarket items and then the seller writes "never tuned". Sure!

There is a general concern about high maintenance costs with a used European vehicle. How much is internet lore and how much is reality is not clear...

I do share some of that concern, but not with a well maintained Japanese vehicle....

That really depends on the year of the car. If it's a 2012, then 46k miles would be high. If it's a 2008, then it would be low to average.

It always cracks me up when a seller says their mileage is "all highway miles". How is that even possible?

Damn, that's a really good deal. Mine was fully loaded besides navi, 2011, bought in december, 17k miles for $30k. Warrantied until Oct 2014. Also purchased at BMW dealer.

I'm a chronic car buyer so they tend to work with me and this one just wasn't moving on the lot.

I have to say, I'm learning to like the body style still. However, the driving experience and engine/chassis is stunning.

I also have a Subaru BRZ and the contrast between them is really interesting.

Does the handling of the BRZ crap on the 135?
