For every person looking at the 135i at the Boston show, there were 6 or 7 ogling the M3.

The point being??

Before you make it, I must tell you that the Lamborghini area was slammed with people at the LA show.

Tip of the Day: Post relevant information in the relevant thread (or at least explain the reasoning).

Here's an idea: I bet there were thousands of people hovering over the the Ferraris with only a few dozen 'ogling' the 135i. Does not say much about the dealer markups of the 135i.

Sorry if that was too terse. Another carshow bit I should have posted is that I was told that waiting lists for the initial allocation of M3's are pretty much filled (in the Boston area), and hardly anyone has ponied up a deposit for the 135i's.

Josh, who provided you with that info?

Two gentlemen staffing the BMW booth at the Boston show. I believe one was from Norwood, and the other from the Peabody dealership. I don't recall their names.

I know you're entitled to your opinion, but I wouldn't have reached such a broad conclusion about the number of preordered 1ers in the Boston area based on the statements of 2 salesmen from 2 dealerships in Boston, unless those were the only 2 dealerships there.

Well, I do believe my question has been successfully answered.

Another question along the same lines- I'm planning on doing a ED next fall. Any chance at that point they'll be selling under MSRP? I know that the ED throws another large factor into the equation, but I was just curious to hear your opinions.

The following site has a wealth of ED info. Well worth your time to look around. And ED pricing should be significantly better than MSRP for a US purchse/delivery.

I doubt that dealers can make any money on mark-up. Even at MSRP, 135i won't sell well imo. For me, I don't see any reason to get 135 while I can get E90 335 with the same configurations for <$3k more (ZPP, ZSP, Navi, premium sound at MSRP). Now, that doesn't consider that I can get 335 sedan at invoice + $500 which turns out to be the same price as 135 at msrp (<$43k). Unless I'll get a 135 with only ZSP option, there's no deal at this time for me.
About resell value, 135 is no match with 335. I expected it to be under $34k MSRP to sell well in the US, but it didn't happen. I would place a bet that 135i will have really slow sale compared to the 3er.

I'm willing to bet that initially the demand for this car will exceed supply . People will buy this car for different reasons: some will buy because it's much smaller than the 3 series; some will buy it for the performance; others will buy it because it's cheaper than the 3 series... See where am going. So, there is no proof to substantiate the argument that it will not sell because of the 3 series.
