Game Practice ??

I have some medical problems, had to sell the 135. But I still need the thrill. So I'm looking for something fairly realistic, hardware and software. Prefer tracks I've been on; Laguna Seca, Thunderhill, etc. Don't care about street racing.

Cost is not a big issue, but realism is a priority. Any help is appreciated.

I thought I was the only person left who hasn't tried iRacing. Everyone seems to love this thing.

Although not quite as realistic you could try GT5 for PS3 or Forza 4/Horizon for Xbox. Both are greatly enhanced by having the right steering wheel, but not totally necessary to have fun.

Also more tracks and cars to choose from.

Not sure if I'm responding too late, but I have a Fanatec racing setup in my living room hooked up to my PS3 (GT5). It is a blast. Three pedals, paddles or 6 speed, and the force feedback is completely customizable. I've seen a gaming bar with this setup too. You can even customize for a BMW wheel. You can plug the wheel into a computer as well to run iRacing. I've mounted my wheel on a customized setup made from steel conduit, a leather wrapped wood board, and some u bolts to make the pedals adjustable. PM for photos.

Good luck with the medical issues dude.

Is GT5 in the same league as Forza 4? I had Forza 4, but had to sell my Xbox... and then I tried NFS Shift 2 Unleashed on my brother's PS3 (which was supposed to be about as good as GT5), but it was crap compared to Forza. So now I'm wondering if I should try GT5 or just give up on a decent racing sim until I can get another xbox.

Forza 4 was terrible in driving dynamics compared to gt5...best one for that is iRacing..then Gt5..then forza somewhere down on the bottom of the list. I've never seen a miata power over steer at 40mph on a slight bend...

Haven't tried the latest GT5 so I can't say, but without a real wheel/seat combo then Forza is not very realistic. It's realistic for a video game, but not so much as an actual sim. The real issue is the proper equipment is expensive, but if you've got the funds for the equipment then the games and consoles are cheap in comparison. You could run all three with three different consoles for less than the cost of a starter sim racer. Sim experience stage 1 kits start at 2k and go up to 18k, but they are used by a number of racing teams. They are bad a**. So if funds aren't an issue you have an excellent realistic track experience without being there.
