Truth?

Today I went looking around for a bmw, and i took some for a test drive and we got to talking about warranty and this and that. He said you have to change the breaks every 2 years and its $500 each..Is that true?
Im looking at a used cpo 135i, I know it will have some warranty left, i just want to know for the future.

A brand new BMW? If so, all scheduled maintenance is covered by warranty for 4 years or 50,000 miles.

My bad i should have said it will be a CPO, Im not looking to buy brand new, and its a 135i

totally depends on where you're driving, and if you have a manual or automatic. I still have around 7mm on my front pads at 42k miles, mostly highway, with manual transmission.

Also, the brake sensors often wrong, mine has shown there is 6k left on the fronts for the last 8k or so miles.

No way. I changed pads at 70k only because I was tired of the dust. The pads had plenty of meat left.

If you're shy about spending $500 on your car every couple of years, a BMW might not be your best choice, TBH.

No 500 isnt bad he said 500 each brake.. thats what made me curious

Stealerships make their money servicing vehicles. The true cost of doing pads and rotors at all four corners with a fluid flush is less than $500 depending on what pads and rotors you use. It takes me less than 2 hours total to do everything by myself (with the exception of the fluid flush) taking my sweet time. Thats putting the car up on jack stands, taking the wheels off, taking everything apart, putting it back together, flushing fluid, putting wheels back on and taking it off the stands. Ive heard of dealerships charging as high as $2000 for new pads, rotors and fluid. My advice- learn to do the simple things (like brakes) yourself. There are so many "how to" videos and threads on the internet. Just take your time the first time and I can almost guarantee you'll come out laughing that you would have paid well over $1000 for what you just did in a couple hours

For OEM parts it's probably almost 500 per axle total. Like mentioned you can save a lot of money by doing the work yourself. There are aftermarket brake components that can be had cheaper depending on what you want. You probably won't have to do it every two years though depending on how you drive (probably less frequently).

The 135i is a fantastic car, and you will love it. However like mentioned if $500 or $1000 has you concerned consider that everything on this BMW is a fairly expensive repair. This is especially true for a cpo that has some miles and no free maintenance left.

My M Roadster was 1100 for the front axle and 600 for the rear. I suspect my one will cost about the same should I take it to the dealer.

Yeah, the dealership told me the same non-sense when I was buying my 1'er, and the GM had the gall to laugh at me when I told him that I do the work on my own cars, and that he likely would never see me in there for routine maintenance. This same person also told me that it would be "impossible" for me to change my own oil because BMW's use "complicated, and advanced oil metering devices" and that there's no dipstick to read. I was almost in tears trying to hold back my laughter.

yeah, I half believed some of the dealer nonsense until I got on the forums.
