Speed Ventures Buttonwillow Event 2013-03-09
Just wanted to share a couple of pictures and some video of the Speed Ventures event at Buttonwillow from last weekend. This was both my first trackday in my 135i and my first time back on track in ten years!
Bought the car in June of '12; a nicely optioned 2008, Montego Blue 135i with sport and premium packages. Only mods are Dinan Stage II software, Vorshlag camber plates, M3 subframe bushings, M3 CDV and a BMS oil catchcan. Oh, and I ditched the stock wheels for some Kosei K1's (17"x8.5") with 245/40s all the way 'round. I was able to dial in about 2.25 degree of negative camber with the Vorshlag plates and that, combined with the new subframe bushings made the car an absolute pleasure to drive. Much more front end grip and the rearend is planted and predictable. Pics: Look at that body roll! I need to fix that... Hitting the curbs... Video of my cleanest laps: I have to give a big thanks to Harold at HP Autowerks for the parts (and subframe tool rental), Yandy for help with the datalogging setup and int2str for the awesome Dashware gauges! Can't wait for my next event. Cheers! Last edited by jgardner240; 03-12-2013 at 11:22 PM.. Reason: Need to edit those images down to size!! |

Is this satakal with the vw estate? Buttonwillow in june anyone? I may go for open test day late april but dont want to get tboned!! Lol
Car looks like it accelerates real fast!! mine will be stock with some rs3 soon. Cant wait to go to buttonwillow again. Good driving but dont hit the berms through the Ss it will disrupt the car at high speeds. You could be flying out of there 100+. Hope to see you out there sometime! Now you just need someone to loan you an external mic!! |

I was one of the four rental mustangs. I think we had more fun than anyone else that day.

I'm considering the Central Cal one day school in June. That track is delightful. Saturday at Buttonwillow reinforced my views on the differences between a "driving school" and a "track day". CCA, PCA, etc driving schools exist for good reason. |

But that VW estate is a beast! Are you sure you were number 11 because it looked like you took all the "1"'s and were number 1111. lol. I've already signed up and paid for the one day school at Buttonwillow in June. I've done track days with other organizers, the BMW CCA driving school, and an open track day (with invisible formula 1 cars zooming by) and yes the "driving school" is much more safe - plus for me I get to learn a lot to use on "track days". see you there. |

Video was from a HD Gopro. After I got home, I used Harry's to export all the data and pulled that and the video files into a PC app called Dashware. int2str (a user on this forum) made up the gauges (and posted them) in a nice format that easily imports into Dashware. According to int2str, it works; fuel too! You just have to get the datalogger to grab the data... I haven't quite figured out the interface on Harry's to do that yet, though. |

How about an E93 M3 front bar?
I know you want the Ohlins R&T! Did you get a chance to ride with Richard? |

How did you brakes hold up? I am trying to advise a friend regarding his first track outing in his 1er, but not sure if he needs any mods there given that he's a novice.

How do you like the Vorschlag camber plates, are they noisy/uncomfortable?

So... I'm pretty sure I wasn't boiling the fluid (it was freshly flushed). The stock pads were just getting overheated and (I assume) compressible. And perhaps the plastic spacers started to degrade as well? Haven't inspected them yet. You know, I feel pretty dumb now for going out there with a stock setup... I had seen a few of the threads about the brake issues, but I figure with a mostly stock car on street tires, I'd be fine. Lesson learned. |
