110,000km 1m?
Hey guys
Just got an opportunity to get my hands on a 2012 1M here in South Korea(very rare here). Previous owner seems to have taken the car pretty well but the high mileage keeps getting to me. 110,000KM on the clock.. Planning on using the car as a daily.. what do you experts think? |

That type of mileage (km not miles) shouldn't be a concern in and of itself, but certainly age can play into some things but more importantly the maintenance history. Are there any maintenance records available?
I recently bought a 1M with 75,000 km and had a complete maintenance history but I also did a bunch of "preventative maintenance" shortly after I purchased it just for peace of mind - see this thread here describing what I did: https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1896868 Great car, generally pretty reliable and the N54 engine is not a high strung engine like the E46 or E92 M3, though it does have relatively minor issues (e.g. water pump, etc.), but those are all things that are well-known and easily addressed.

In Germany we have a lot of 1M around 100.000km and more.
The N54 has some issues like injectors, waterpump, etc. Apart from this it's a robust engine you can drive 300.000km or more. |

127k miles on mine. No major issues. A couple of water pumps and the front water neck flange gave out. One hood latch cable. Pinion seal on the rear differential. I did refresh the suspension, which it needed, although the stock stuff was still doing quite well for the miles on it. Overall it's been as reliable as any car I've owned.
Get it and drive it! 👍🏽 |

I just crossed 100,000 miles
no big deal—just make sure it was serviced and maintained well! The N54 is a reliable engine people who modify it run into trouble My 1M is probably the most reliable car I've owned

I would not let the milage be a deterrent to your purchase if the car has been maintained in excellent condition. I replaced all fluids when I purchased my car with 78K miles on it and also the water pump for peace-of-mind. The battery and plug wires were replaced shortly before my purchase. I've had the car for over 2 years and drive the car in the manner in which I was meant to be driven. I've had NO issues.
The nice thing about the 1M is that parts are generally not a problem for such a rare car as most of the needs can be harvested from the lesser 1-series BMW's or the M3 comp. Good luck with your decision. Please join the forum and post if you move forward! |
