Nothing major - its going to be a slow one as this is my daily car and I still have to locate a spare 335i or M3 prop for reasonable money (most breakers seem to want £200+, which is more than I paid for an entire subframe!)

Once I have that, things will happen much quicker!

135 / M3 diff

Hi all
Just completed the new set up all good to go.
Complete with the 135 rear brake setup.
there are so many parts that you can mix and match on these cars thats why i like them.

Best combination, e9x m3 subframe, final drive and arms with 135i brakes and rotors! Did the 135i rotor fit over m3 hand brake shoes and the caliper bolt up to m3 swivel bearing?

I dummy fitted 135i twin piston caliper onto rear of 1M today with the standard(1M/M3) 24mm thick rotor and it was no dice. I didn't get as far as to try the 135i rotor. I did however try F20 M135i rotors and caliper, m135i rotor won't fit over the hand brake shoes.

Ughh that makes my life a little easier. Can you comment on that was everything bolt on? Do you know torque values of the bolts around diff by chance? Also did you reused old bolts or you bought them new?

Thank You

Peter,

Can you measure up the frankenshaft so that we can get a custom CF drive shaft made some day? I think a few of us want this mod done, would prefer a custom Drive shaft for (1) reliability with the extra torque and (2) bragging rights..

Just out of curiosity is there an advantage to swapping the rear subframe over to a E92 M3 item instead of just doing the usual m3 subframe bushes?

I'm eventually going to be installing a wavetrac lsd and was thinking of upgrading to M3 subframe bushes whilst the work is being done which I believe are around $500 fitted, when a used m3 subframe with bushes is up for sale for $600 ish... ( $600 for the subframe alone, no ancillary items)

Apart from the bushes and the M3 diff, I think the next benefit is the lightness and better geometry of the suspension arms... Assuming the subframe comes complete.

If it comes with hubs and brakes too, then it can form the rear part of a BBK upgrade.

I'd really like to know more about the change in rear end geometry. Can you get close to the M3's rear end stability just by swapping a $500 sub-frame and bushes?

You'll need it all and the front to 'balance' the suspension

I think it is a bit to much transforming all the parts also going with BBK in that case you need master brake cylinder front brakes front suspension etc... If you have possibility to do complete subframe with all bushes and rods go ahead and do it because it will have all bushes on it including diff mounts and all other. About which one is lighter I wouldn't be so sure...
It is good idea to do m3 bushes rods and I would do at the same rear sway bar from 335xi or 335 convertible which is 15mm thick compared with our 12mm

I have already done the front end with M3 arms, so balance and more predictability is what I'd like to achieve. I'd prefer to understand the actual issue instead of just going to replace everything with a large helping of M3 parts. I'm also wondering if can get an improvement in balance just by adjusting rear toe and camber - That seems the obvious first step to look at.

Why would you need a master cyl... It's the same part number. Also.. Front subframe is the same, only difference is the arms and front anti roll bar(1M).

OP, are you using the standard 135i swivel bearing, handbrake setup and rear caliper? 135i twin pot doesn't bolt onto M3 rear hub and doesn't sit in right position on disc. Also, discs pictured aren't m3 any info would be great.

The rhd e90/92 M3 and rhd e82 135i brake master cylinder are not the same part number.

I am using the 135i wheel hub so as to use the 135i calipers and rotors.

Yep plus a sway and I'd say your 90% there. Have a look at hpa Harold has the kits in stages. The front is real easy, the rear though is rather more time consuming and IMHO if your going to do bushings then you might as well do it all while it's apart

Now that you've had the new rear end in for a while, how's it coming along Steve?
