So no one (other than the german car) has been able to fit this type of intake on a 1? This link has links to parts if anyone wants to try...

Our intake for the 135i is a true cold air pulling air from behind the front bumper instead of on top of the hot engine. We even offer forum discounts!
PM us for more info. |

I have a Mr. 5 intake constructed and plan to install sometime in next week or so. The pipe routing looks tigher than on a 3 series, but I think it is doable. I do think the PS res likely has to be sligthly relocated i order to run a 3" pipe, but will try to route it without PS relocation first.
Will post some results when done... |

Well... over here mod'ing your car like that is highly illegal. You can get into a lot of trouble with the Polizei IF they ever stop you. Fine and Points! Plus... your insurance can deny a claim if you got into an accident and they somehow find out you modded your car. I think Alpina offers a cold air induction box... butt they are really stricht on who they allow to order spare parts. You have to provide an Alpina VIN and give them a photos of the broken part... before they will "allow" you to order a spare part! Welcome to DE! lol Most guys over here just do a flash tune and thats it. Maybe an exhaust and FMIC - as well. But its not like us crazy Americans are with P-O-W-E-R!!! |

Let's see. BMW spends hundred of thousands making sure these things are set up right, but some one believes they can do it better.
I've tried CAI's on any number of BMW's and to date none worked better than OEM. There is more to a CAI than where the air is drawn from. Length, air turbulance and many other factors come into play. To really make a difference you would need to actively cool the intake air. |

Has anyone with a 135i made the Mr.5 intake work?
Finally got around to taking the fender well off to see if my Mr. 5 style intake will fit on the 135. There is definately less room for the filter than on a 335.
This DIY shows the filter installed horizontal at the frame, but on the 135 it appears that the only place it might fit without moving somthing in the bumper is down at the belly pan next to the where the charge pipe connects to the FMIC. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ghlight=intake Some adjustments to this DIY roughly appears like it might work, but 1) the big bracket holding the Power Steering res will likely have to come out (unlike this DIY on the 335) and 2) Filter diameter might have to be carefully chosen in order to fit in the tighter space. I'm not sure if I want to go the extra mile to make this work on my 135 since i'll likley be adding meth soon and will be OK with DCIs while running meth. Anyone been able to make the Mr.5 work on thier 135i yet? |

Just buy a replacement free flow filter. You'll retain the cold air aspect and get the free'er flow you are seeking. what you don't get is wooosh from the turbos.

Cool, will be glad to hear how you make out. I was able to speak with someone that installed a DINAN CAI on the 135 and it appears that their kit requires moving the horn (from just above the brake cooling duct in order to make room for a filter. After spending 15 looking around down there, I really think this route would be a good way to go. just not sure (yet) where to move the horn to.
