Auto Dimming Side Mirror not covered under CPO

Bought my 1er last Nov. as a CPO car. I noticed the driver's side mirror was turning bronze along the bottom edge of the mirror. Took it in for service and they inform me that it's "broken, and leaking fluid" (I see no puddles or drips) and that it's not covered under the CPO warranty. I am over 50K so I'm out of the factory portion of the warranty, but not that much outside it (58K).
I called BMW NA to see if they will good will the repair as $400.00+ seems a bit steep to me. If this can't get resolved, I'll just get the regular tinted heated glass for $47.00 and replace it myself.

That sucks. I had my drivers side replaced last week for same issue. 27K miles, but am still under factory 4yr/50K warr.
I ran into the CPO issue with my wifes ML. Had to argue with the SA to have an interior piece fixed under CPO...as they said it wasn't covered. Was in the same boat as you...miles were just outside of factory warr., but within CPO. In the end it was replaced at n/c. Best of luck. $400+ for the mirrow seems steep!

Wow $400.00 vs. $47.00 dang.. could you just buy the auto dim mirror and replace it yourself? Its not that hard.. cause that is an insane price to pay to replace 1 side mirror (not even the mirror cap).

Yeah I can do that too, the auto dim glass is $222.00 at a BMW online parts dealer. Not sure if I want to fork out that cash yet or not. Still waiting on NA, they said it takes a few days to come to a decision.

If BMW NA doesn't help you out you can pm either Evan at Ticsher or Dan at United BMW on the forum.. they can probably give you a discount.. even if its $150.00 thats still a good price compared to the $222.00.

Germans & mirrors = NFG

Germans STILL can't make proper mirror glass. Never see an American or ricer with similiar issue.

How many American or Japanese cars come with auto-dimming exterior mirrors? Very, very few.

That's a bunch a BS!!! If you didn't actually break it/foreign object make contact....That mirror should be covered under warranty. Its a defective mirror......period! Is this BMW of Mt laurel?
They have been "slipping" in everything now that they are no longer Desimone.
I would go back to another SA and raise some hell. Demand they fix this.

In the dealer's defense, the CPO documentation specifically states that mirrors aren't covered. CPO warranties aren't nearly as comprehensive as the new vehicle limited warranty. I'm not saying I wouldn't want the mirror fixed if it were me and that I wouldn't be upset if the dealer didn't want to fix it, but they're certainly under no obligation to do so under the CPO warranty.

It's not Mt. Laurel... And yes I agree with you AW. I'm going through NA to see if they will good will it since I'm just outside of original warranty though. We'll see what happens. Also the dealer I'm having the service done at is replacing my seat memory buttons because they haven't felt right since I bought the car last Nov. They looked into it and found that someone had spilled a sugary drink on it, thus not making it eligible for any coverage. I asked that they reconsider it because it's been like that since Day 1 and 1 month after I bought the car the passenger window would occasionally refuse to roll up ultimately ending in a replacement module and a constant malfunctioning TPMS system which also resulted in a new module for that, that the memory switch was low on my priority list. Time passed, I forgot, until the other day that I actually wanted to set the switches. They agreed and are replacing the switch free of charge.

Ok. Got a new seat switch installed courtesy of the dealer. However, they said my cluster software is up to date. Still no double-line OBC.

I don't have auto-dimming nor foldable mirrors and I have some bronze stuff on the edge of my mirrors too, what could it be?

If you don't have auto dimming side mirrors, it's just the backing deteriorating along the edges. When the auto-dimming mirrors fail they turn like a bronze shade rather then blotches. think of it as being tinted all the time, and giving a slight double image.

My C5 Z06 had a leaky electrochromatic mirror at 30k miles. I replaced it with a regular mirror and all was well.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I'm having the exact same issue. Browning along the bottom of the mirror in my 128i with premium. Dealer is charging me $500 with labor for the change. Does anyone know how to get the part cheaper and/or DIY for replacement? I'm in the GTA

Only $500? My dealer was going to charge $475 a side before any install and taxes and that's with a dealer to dealer discount (I work in the industry). I paid $240 for two blue tint Euro mirrors from BMW with my discount and just got them today, can't wait to install them tonight.

That's crazy. Inconsistencies between dealerships in Canada? I would like to have the autodim and heated in both mirrors. It would bother me if only one would be dimming, (which currently that's what is happening).

Is it tough to DIY? I just don't want to mess anything up if I were to try and do it myself.

I am in Calgary. I couldn't stand them being different so I ordered two regular ones and they showed up as Euro mirrors which is even better.
