My 2010 does not have a boot lock at all... this is a change from the earlier cars!

Would be interested to learn how you get in with out it as having a flat battery would leave you in the same situation!

Well, you can understand the confusion. Those of us with the trunk locks simply can't imagine the scenario suggested. No one had ever reported that there was a trunk lock delete on the '09 models.

How much is the trunk lock delete mod? Will it void my warranty?

if you have the cold weather package shouldn't he be able to open the door (with the manual key) fold down the ski pass through, then reach back and release the seat latches.

once that is done i'd think he could pull the emergency release on the trunk?

hope you are small'ish/limber, and that you opted for the cold weather package. *eek*

good luck!

*edit* I don't have the cold weather package, I'm just assuming there is a pass-through between the rear seats.

It looks like all 1 series produced after 03/09 do not have a trunk lock. This must have been a cost cutting measure by BMW. Wow - I wonder what else they have taken off that we can't see?

Do we have any post 03/09 owners who can check this out?

If so, what you did to get your truck lid open is really the only way to do it with a disconnected or dead battery.

Ballroomm - did they also get rid of the valet switch feature - located in the glove box?

Wow that is weird.

My Porsche had electrically opened trunk AND hood lids........and no key hole in them.

If the battery ran out, you had to go to the fuse box with a 9 volt battery and press it against two contacts. This would give you enough juice to open up the hood. I wonder if the newer 1ers uses something like this as well?

I have an '08 build, and I do not have the valet switch, even though it shows this in the manual.

Ahhh yes Boxsters do that.

Just call the dealership, I'm sure they will know what to do. That should have been your first thought.

Do you have access to another battery/charging station and some jumper cables? If so, you can always use the positive terminal next to the windshield washer fluid and any groundable source on the car to get your power back long enough to pop the trunk.

It has been that way since being mandatory in 2002. It still doesn't help the OP since he cannot get to the trunk in the first place... lol

Like two of us said above; just call a buddy with jumper cables and a battery or a charging station and you will be set.
