Hey everyone
When i picked up my car 2 months ago i had a small scratch, about 1 inch long in the front passanger fender. the dealer told me they would take care of it. when i picked the car up after they were supposed to buff it out or at least hide it they ended up burning the clear coat right off the car. Now there is a quarter sized circle below the scratch that i think goes all the way through the clear coat onto the paint. I'm realllly pissed about this. THey are taking responsibilty for this but they want to know what i want to do. they could re-paint the fender but then the color might now match the car they said. ALso it has been 2 months - should i ask for any sort of compensation, aka accessories? Let me know your opinions. I'm super pissed!

Tell em to respray the entire thing if need be, none of this your fault, there was nothing wrong with the dollar bills you used to pay for the car, so there shouldn't be f**k-all wrong with the paintjob - bloody careless sods
You paid money for that car, they seem to forget it really quickly - make some noise, speak to a manager

See if they can just re clear the fender. If they re-do the metalic paint, it may look even worse.

I'm no paint expert, but it looks like the metallic is messed up too. Tell them to re-paint the entire fender. If they use BMW paint and apply it properly it should not be noticable. Tell them you want a guaranteed match.

Lots of cars are repaired like this at the VDC and we never know... don't stress over it yet - tell them to repaint it.

I would have them repaint it, and do it over until they get it right.

just get them to re-paint it, or hire a reputable auto painter to do it. It is their fualt after all, they should ofrk out the bill. no compromise.

If you waited a whopping two months for them to just use scratch paper on your car, do as Mikey suggested - tell them you want to take the car to a reputable auto painter and have them do it while they pay the bill.

thanks guys - i'll get it checked out tomorrow if i can. my cousin is an awesome painter - he does it for a living. maybe i can make some $ from the dealer as well on this

Man, I'm going through a similar situation.

Tell them to remove the entire fender and send it to a body shop.

The body shop shoudl remove the clearcoat layer, then reapply a new clearcoat layer over the entire fender. This should not cause any discolouration.

In terms of compensation, ask for anything u could possibly need. Winter floormats? A jacket? A mini model of your car. Anything.

That sucks and I feel your pain... I am going thru something very similliar and am hoping they dont screw up the fix it job... They scratched my hood to all he!! when they put the clear bra on... Good luck with the fix!

Yes, tell them to sand down the clear. Not technically to the paint but so you cant tell a difference in the surface, and re-clear. This happened to me when i bought my car. there was a 2 1/2 foot long double scratch on the trunk lid that i 95% know was done when they prepped my car for my purchase. they just wet-sanded it and buffed it. You can see deep scratches where they wet sanded it with a stick. Oh, well.

I'm with this approach. If this doesn't work then you can get reinbursed and DIY style.

Triji - i'm so sorry about your car. i think that yours is a bit worse then mine, but its hard to tell. I'm going to tell them that i want it re cleared and i'll make sure that i get this done right. no more f'ing around with my car

Am I weird because I really couldn't care less about a nick in the paint on my car? I see why others might get all flippy over it, but I generally feel that a vehicle is an object that goes flying around at 90mph + most of the time; the paint is gonna get a couple of dings... why stress over it?

i wouldnt have them re paint. just mention to them, can they color sand and buff it again. repainting the car could be worst.

Second is having them repaint your fender and getting ti to match.

Thrid, is having them apologise for having your car for so long..!
