I don't think we are talking about the same thing. The sound coming from the drivers door is a ticking/springy sound around the seat belt assembly.

Has anyone figured any of this out? My dealer ordered and installed the seat belt assembly and rear cup holder, but i still get rattles. Anyone get this fixed yet?

Hi All,

With regards to the sound that sounds like it is coming from the front left of the car / front left door - it is caused by a loose / faulty bolt on the Shock Tower Tensioner. My replacement part arrived today and being repaired today.
It either sounds like something is sliding inside the door or sometimes it just rattles.

I had this problem on my E46 - at least it sounds like the same thing.

Turns out that the window seal was the culprit - if I 'cracked' the windows open slightly, but not enough to let water in, etc it removed the noise...

Try opening the window ever so slightly - just a quick, gentle tap on the window 'down' button.

The way to fix this (if it is indeed the problem) is to buy some lubricant designed for the window seal. This reduces the friction between the edge of the window glass and the seal in the door.

I hope this solves the problems...

The sound from the door went away and then came back for a couple of minutes and gone again. This is getting annoying. Also I am getting an annoying creak from the back light on top of the rear windshield. I touched it with my hand and when I apply a little pressure it creaks. Is the assembly for the rear brake light supposed to feel this loose?

So after about 2500 miles my car seems to have developed "springy-tingy sound" from the driver's side seat belt assembly. Its so quiet I feel like an idiot complaining about it, but being 6 inches from your ear you can't help but hear it. Its like a mosquito that won't stop buzzing by your ear.

Anyway, has anyone gotten a successful resolution to this issue? It sounds like other folks have been in contact with their dealers about it.

I also need to find a resolution... the clicking sound is driving me nuts! Anyone sucessfully have this fixed? I am afraid if they replace the seat belt tensioner that it will just come back in 1000 miles.

It's funny how this sound works! I hadn't noticed this ticking sound at all, so after reading about this on this forum and another, I turned off my radio and my a/c and listened. I couldn't believe that I had it too! So I put my a/c and radio back on and thought it'd be back to normal but now I can't stop hearing the sound. Once you hear it once, you can't stop listening for it.

IF YOU DON'T HEAR IT YET, DON'T LISTEN FOR IT!!! IT'LL DRIVE YOU NUTS ONCE YOU DO!!!

It's annoying and there's nothing you can do about it.

I'd been following this thread hoping for a fix for the ticking sound, but finally i couldn't take it anymore and brought it into service a couple days ago, THEY GOT RID OF THE SOUND!

The ticking comes from some kind of seatbelt cable/cord hitting against the body of the car. Just have them wrap it with something soft, like cloth or felt.

My enjoyment of the car has just shot up even more (since I was fixated on listening to that ticking and tapping all the time

Thanks!
Hear the same sound...only seems noticable over 60mph...my son pointed it out to me and now I always hear it...damn kid!

My ticking sound in the driver's side door was also the window seal. Cracking the window slightly fixed the problem...

I picked up my car two days back. Noticed the rattling sounds as soon as I hit the first bump on the road. The sound seems to be coming from the driver's seat belt assembly. The rattling is very obvious on bumpy roads and at higher speeds.

I am planning on taking the car back to the dealer to get it fixed. But I am glad to know that I am not the only person in the world who is going nuts hearing the constant jiggling/creaking.

On the other board, someone said that they wrapped a seatbelt assembly cable with felt to stop it from hitting the body of the car.

LMAO and yes mine is gone. I did the fix as I was driving its that easy.

1st Orbit gum (fav. makes no diff)
2nd fold it up nice and neat.
3rd place or jam it between the black part that moves and the gray seatbelt housing.

Thats It! And the best part is the seatbelt covers the gum wrapper so you dont look ghetto.

I have to take a pic of it.

Sorry to bring this old topic back but I'm searching for an update to this subject.

I've started to notice this springy sound that appears to come from the left front door or more likely from the B-pillar. It can only be heard if the speed is over 80kmh/50mph or driving on a rougher surface. On a smooth road the sound doesn't exist. The right-hand side B-pillar makes the same sound too.

I haven't tested scottz5's solution but the car is going to service tomorrow (see:http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...6&postcount=34) anyway so I can let them sort it out also. However, I'd like to give them as much info as possible before they start searching the cause of this sound.

So, the sound most likely comes from the B-pillars but does anyone know what is the exact part that causes this problem. I'm wondering if this is the same issue described in this TSB http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...61&postcount=2.

These little sounds are always annoying so I'm looking forward to a quick solution. TIA

waste of time

Brought my car in yesterday for the b-pillar clicking. They had to keep the car overnight(I kid you not) to return it to me with no discernable improvement. BMW service leaves much to be desired. In fact it is misleading even to call it service. They should call it aggravation. Yea, that's it, I'm bringing my car in for aggravation today.

Off topic but just so as not to be completely negative, they gave me a X3 loaner to drive. In contrast to some other opinions I've seen here, I thought it was a decent ride for what it is.

I feel so lucky I got my first springy seatbelt sound as well once I hit about 1500 miles. Just happened once for about 20 seconds and I haven't heard it since. I did know exactly what it was though when I heard it.

I finially broke down and tried Scott's fix. Certainly not the most elegant solution but definetly most effective. Doesn't make a sound anymore. Thx Scott, beats the ticking in my left ear.

that's my temporary fix too. after reading the TSB, i'm not even sure if it's referring to the seatbelt clicking. seems like two separate things to me.

It didn't make sense to me how moving and returning the door striker to its original position would solve the problen either. But, I thought I'd give it a shot. You should have seen the SA falling all over himself trying to explain why this would work. BMW people (on the inside, sales service, corporate) are in their own little world. They would be amusing if it weren't so frustrating as an owner.
