Methanol

I plan on installing Meth this weekend and left it late to pick up some methanol.

Anyone know whether the Coogee Methanol is the same as VP R M1?

I called 2 of the 3 Melbourne distributors and had no luck getting M1. Anyone know where I could pick some up on Saturday?

I have used Coogee with no issues and pretty sure a few others have. It's not VP M1, but it's half the price...

Thanks Kenny, they're the numbers I've tried earlier.
The first one always goes to an answering machine and I've left a message.
2nd doesn't have stock, not sure on price, needs to get back to me.
3rd one doesn't stock methanol.

Not having much luck with VP here in Vic. I've seen Coogee on eBay, might be the easiest way to get it.

Call VP head office and speak to Paul. Let him know you called his three VIC suppliers and can't get through to order M1. Ask him how you can get M1.

I don't know what Coogee is but use it if you think it's good.

VP is like 99.9% pure, Coogee is like 99.5% or something like that. The workshop I bought it from sells both and they use Coogee in a lot of applications including race cars. So thought it would be fine.

Just to close this off I thought I'd post this up which may help others in Vic looking for Methanol.

In the end I gave up on VP Racing M1, it was just too much effort trying to track down who stocked it as their website isn't up to date, especially since there are several other options I then found.

So for those living in Melbourne here are some places you can get Methanol from:

RaceFuels
18 Moray St
Sth Melb
20L $50, they stock the Elf methanol which is 99.93% pure
9686 8645 or 0419 511 517 (Mark)
http://www.racefuels.com.au/fuelsDetail.asp?ID=25

Oil Chem
55 Miller St
Epping
9401 3377
20L $44, they stock Coogee Methanol 99.9% pure
http://www.oilchem.com.au/products/alcohols/methanol

Sceneys
Factory in Sunshine, sell direct to public
4L $20
20L $60
9311 7477
http://www.sceneys.com.au/default/solvents

Coogee
Australian produced Methanol.
Only sell in 205L drums but they can tell you of a supplier near your which offers smaller quantities.
9360 2015
http://www.coogee.com.au/op_meth.html#buying

I ended up going with the Elf Methanol from Racing Fuels because of location, they also sell hose taps that you can attach to the pail.

For our application of methanol I don't think 99.95% or 99.93% purity would make any difference. Methanol is hygroscopic so the purity would drop just by sitting in your garage and we mix it with water anyway.

I hope this helps others looking for Meth in Vic.

Cheers
Ian

You're right of course. As an analytical chemist, I would severely doubt whether you could quote purity to two decimal places which would encompass batch to batch variations.

The only thing that would concern me would be the attack on any rubbers or polymers in your methanol delivery system.

I'm running Elf Methanol also and seems to work extremely well.
